Chicks with sticks

The film starts out with zombies in the first clip. You don't know why they are there, unless you read the DVD by-line. It starts with three main characters, Boris (Michael Gamarano)a cowardly policeman who is still handing out parking tickets during the Apocalypse. There is also a milkman (David McClelland) and a man (George McCluskey) who learned survival skills in the service...the postal service. If you don't read the by-line you will know what caused the zombie outbreak 80 minutes into the film, although it does have a flashback subplot. Our core group is joined by others as most of the film, like most zombie films, is consumed by their traveling and killing zombies. The end was unexpected. The humor was hit and miss, with a few good scenes.

Worth watching for those who like a little humor with their zombies.

Parental Guide: F-bombs. No sex. Nude pictures hanging on wall.

Munch away

I guess this tries to be like Shaun of the Dead a little bit. Unfortunately it never really achieves those heights. Even more unfortunate is seeing Edward Furlong and what he has become (literally and metaphorically, in his career and in this movie). Once seen as something that could be a great actor, he can't even deliver (or maybe he doesn't bother to) in a movie like this.

The character of munch might be the most fun one here, but overall there is a feeling of dread. There are subplots and some funny characters that work occasionally, but it doesn't add up. So while some jokes are funny others miss their mark completely, making this an odd experience. Not always in a good sense. You may try it, if you are into B-movies, but there is no guarantee you'll find it amusing

Lame Shaun of the Dead wannabe

THE ZOMBIE KING is a British comedy horror film, made as very much a SHAUN OF THE DEAD rip-off with northern-style humour throughout. Thus we get lots of exaggerated jokes, lots of lame character humour, and broad accents. The stars of the piece are ostensibly Edward Furlong and Corey Feldman, but both have little screen time and instead much of the narrative is occupied by a bunch of unknowns who go through the streets avoiding zombies wherever they can.

Furlong has a supporting role as the titular character, a down-on-his-luck chap who accidentally caused a zombie epidemic when trying to bring his wife back to life. Feldman has a one scene cameo as the lord of all evil, if you can believe that. Most of the budget must have gone on flying the two actors over to the UK to shoot their brief scenes. The rest is a waste of time.
