I must say that I had expected something a bit more than a short movie about a woman wandering aimlessly about a shopping center and a bus terminus, complaining that she doesn't have enough money to travel to Muar, and then watching her laying on a bed and doing nothing.
Yeah, that was essentially the entire movie summarized. Sounds interesting? No, it doesn't. But that was the "Hu die fu ren" (aka "Madame Butterfly") in its entirety.
There was very little dialogue to help the non-existing storyline along the way, so it was a mind-boggling and impressively boring 36 minutes of practically nothing. This was just a waste of time and effort. And now that I have suffered through this, I can honestly say that I am never ever going to return to watch this 2009 short movie a second time.
In fact, some of us suffered through this short film so you don't have to. Believe you me, this movie is as pointless as it is uneventful.
My rating of director Ming-liang Tsai's 2009 short film lands on a more than generous two out of ten stars.
Plot summary
A woman is wandering the upstairs shopping center above a bus terminus aimlessly, as she cannot pay for the bus ticket to travel to Muar, even though she is generously offered a ticket at a discounted price that she has enough money for.
