How can it be so flat? Feels like casting in progress and script is being read for the first time. Lots of "client" and "contract", fake snow and just weird over all. Watched til the end because was too lazy to get up from the couch and get the remote...

Flat
Natalie Dreyfuss
The movie starts out with some of the same old plot devices. We have to get the contract and need a party planner to make our party special. If she does a great job, she'll get a promotion. The two leads have to work together to plan the party. They start out rocky and then you know the rest.
But this movie felt different for two reasons. One was the sassy, confident, fun, and quirky Holly played by Natalie Dreyfuss. And yes she had chemistry with Marshall Williams even if she was the one who stood out and him not so much. The second thing was beginning with the conflict the whole movie shifted and did some unusual things. I didn't think they all made sense, but looking back from the end explains some of it.
Poorly Researched, Unrealistic and Tacky
I have worked in the architecture industry for nearly a decade. Not once have I encountered an architect who doesn't know how to build a physical model or use 3D rendering software. True models are not built with masking tape but with white glue or heat guns to hide the seams.
This movie is unrealistic and stilted in tone and presentation. It fails to get me to suspend disbelief, which also means it fails at creating a magical and enchanting Christmas environment as the characters lack depth of experience and perception. The screenwriters should have tried the storyline on architects prior to attempting this. It is not believable that a grown son is going to inherit his father's architecture and engineering business when he lacks the basic understanding and training to run it. Total incompetence.
