I think in the terms of Romcoms this movie ranks above average.

You know what you're getting into by choosing this movie, it's a romcom about a woman trying to figure out what men want. Then how are people hating on it so much? I don't get it. It delivers what it promises, nothing fancy, no plot twists, no unique writing, enjoyable fun acting, just mindless bubbly fun.

Taraji P Henson is a bowl of energy and sunshine that keeps the rhythm of this movie constantly up and high and she elevates the whole movie. The movie really banked on this as well, almost every scene has her which is great.

Supporting characters are barely memorable except Max Greenfield (Who played Schmidt on New Girl) simply because I like the actor. Rest are forgettable.

Plot is simple, nothing that unique but fun, it follows the basic romcom formula but nothing wrong with that.

Are there better Romcoms, yes of course. Are there worse, many.

Don't believe on those 1 star 2 star reviews I'd say, the IMDb rating is quite accurate 5-6 star ballpark is much suited for this movie.

If you're in the mood of bubbly fun movie I'd say go for it. I personally quite enjoyed this movie.

I heard the title of this film and instantly recognised it would be a reversal remake of the Mel Gibson movie What Women Want, and I recognised the lead female star, so I wasn't going to miss it, directed by Adam Shankman (The Wedding Planner, A Walk to Remember, Bedtime Stories). Basically, in Atlanta, Ali Davis (Empire's Taraji P. Henson) is a successful sports agent for Summit Worldwide Management who feels overlooked being surrounded by a mostly male-dominated workforce. Ali is confident that she will get a partner promotion that she has been working extra hard for. When she is passed over for the promotion, her boss Nick Ivers (Brian Bosworth) explains that it is because he feels she does not connect well with men. Determined to succeed in a man's world, Ali announces that she will sign up-and-coming basketball star Jamal Barry (Shane Paul McGhie). Ali goes out for drinks with her father Skip (Shaft's Richard Roundtree),and flirts with bartender, Will Thomas (Aldis Hodge). They have sex at his home, where Ali is introduced to his young son, Ben (Auston Jon Moore). At a photo shoot, Ali stands up for her client, but anger Jamal's father and manager Joe "Dolla" Barry (30 Rock's Tracy Morgan). At a bachelorette party for Ali's friend Mari (Tamala Jones),Ali is introduced to Sister (Erykah Badu),a psychic. To help Ali "connect with men", Sister gives her "fey lougawou" (Kalanchoe pinnata) tea to drink. While dancing with her friends at a club, Ali is knocked unconscious. Waking up in hospital, she hears the thoughts of the doctor. Back in the office, with her assistant Brandon (Josh Brener),she realises she has gained the ability to hear the thoughts of men. They track down Sister, who convinces Ali that she could use her newfound power to her advantage. Ali starts with a poker game attended by her fellow agents and Joe. She shows up uninvited but impresses Joe and is invited to join Summit's meeting with Jamal. Ali saves the pitch of her co-worker Kevin Myrtle (Max Greenfield) to Jamal and Joe; Kevin later confronts Ali, revealing that he had voted to make her partner. Ali hears the thoughts of Joe that he does not trust a woman without a family, so she passes Will and Ben, who just happen to show up, as her husband and son. She invites them all to an NBA game, where she hopes to further impress Joe with her "family, unbeknownst to Will or Ben. Ali and Will go on a double date with Mari and her fiancé James, during which Ali hears James's thoughts, and she also hears that Will only has thoughts for her. They have sex, with Ali using Will's thoughts to fully satisfy him. The Summit office is shocked to find out that agent Ethan Fowler (Jason Jones) has quit and signed Jamal himself, withdrawing him from the NBA draft to play in China instead. Nick berates Ali, stating that the only reason he will not fire her is because she is a black woman. Will finds out about her family façade from Nick, and he tells her to stay away from him and his son. At Mari's wedding, Ali hears James's thoughts about who he has been sleeping with. Feeling what happened with Nick, Ali gets drunk, and despite Brandon trying to intervene, she drunkenly announces to everyone James sleeping with Mari's cousin. She also reveals that the husband of her friend Ciarra (Phoebe Robinson) has been cheating on her, and a brawl breaks out at the wedding. During the fighting, Ali is again knocked unconscious. Ali wakes up at the hospital, seen again by the same doctor as before, but she realises she can no longer hear men's thoughts. Following advice from her father, Ali reconciles with Brandon and her friends. She finds Jamal, who tells her he does not want to go to China, and Ali tells him he should do what his heart tells him. Jamal decides to stay and becomes the first NBA draft pick. Ali is promoted to partner but decides to quit to start her own agency with Kevin, as well as Brandon, who has longed to be an agent. Ali goes to visit Will and asks him for another chance, expressing her feelings for him, he agrees, and they embrace. Also starring Wendi McLendon-Covey as Olivia, Chris Witaske as Eddie, Twilight's Kellan Lutz as Captain F...tastic, and Shaquille "Shaq" O'Neal as himself. Henson is likeable as the sassy lead, Brener is funny as the camp assistant, and Badu is a bit of a scene-stealer as the foul-mouthed clairvoyant. It feels almost the same as the original film this is based on (the lead character missing a promotion and then hearing the thoughts of the opposite sex),the familiarity is perhaps a weakness, but the more modern attitude works, and there are enough funny moments, so it is not dull, a reasonable romantic comedy. Worth watching! What.

Hard-charging sports agent Ali Davis (Taraji P. Henson) is disappointed in being skipped over for an expected promotion to partner. She has an one-night stand with single dad Will (Aldis Hodge). A night out with her friends has Ali drinking a secret potion from psychic Sister. She hits her head and wakes up with the power to read the minds of men. She needs to sign top NBA prospect Jamal Barry who is controlled by her father Joe 'Dolla' Barry (Tracy Morgan). When Dolla dismisses her for not being a family woman, she pulls Will into a lie about being married.

Ali is a B. That's what her initial introduction represents. It's not that funny and she's a little off-putting. It's trying to be humorous but it's not pulling it off. I'm still willing to go with this movie but the premise runs into a few problems. I don't buy that hearing other people's thought would send her into a panic. I would have liked a longer scene between Ali and Brandon. They could have been a hilarious duo in a comedic scene. Once she realizes that she has a superpower, the movie gets back on track but another problem arises. It doesn't make sense that she wouldn't tell Will about the lie. She needs his help to pull it off under any circumstances. The comedy can come with his son blowing up the lie and the pair trying to repair it. This has a sprinkling of NBA stars. I guess everybody wants to be in movies. I expected more from Tracy Morgan although he may be limited right now after his accident. I'm not a fan of the Mel Gibson movie and this is no better.
