It could have been good but ended up being average

I've seen a lot worse and I think that this movie could have been a lot better if they had dropped the supernatural element. I enjoy Terrace Stamp who has an impressive voice and it saddened me to see him wasted as Odin. This could have been a great movie because it had a strong female lead, betrayal, intrigue and revenge. Instead, it relies on a bunch of villain clichés and over the top acting. Like I said, the elements were all there but they stumbled towards the endgame.

A better indie than some

I caught this on Amazon Prime under the title OF GODS AND WARRIORS. It's another British independent feature, mostly shot in the woods with an unknown cast, but a little better than a lot of similar indies I've watched. Now, that doesn't make it good; the story is still too cliched, the direction too static, the acting too variable for that to be the case. But this does have more going for it than some. There are cameos from the likes of Terence Stamp and Paul Freeman, both good, and a bad guy turn from the hulking Martyn Ford. Ian Beattie shows up to play EXACTLY the same character as he did in GAME OF THRONES. The film has an amped up violence level and lots of nasty gratuitous scenes throughout. But one of the biggest detractions lies in the central performance of Anna Demetriou, who fails to change her expression even once throughout the running time. Literally any other actress would have been better, I reckon.

It is a curse for a child to be born with an absent father

Helle (Anna Demetriou) must regain the throne usurped by her uncle with the help of the gods, a few good men, and some hippies. The film had elements of a Shakespearian drama, Nietsche philosophy, and Woodstock along with subtitles in both English and Spanish.

The theme, which is repeated too often, is "It is a curse for a child to be born with an absent father" even if the father is just outside the door fighting off invaders. What is the limit?

In spite of the interesting plot, the film doesn't put it together. The fighting didn't make it. The dialogue was phony. Overall, it was not convincing and please stop with all the blonde Vikings.

Guide: sex and nudity. No swearing.
