Holy molly!

Wow! I was surprised by how quickly I got hooked on it.

The chaos and all natural disaster stuff was really well done, the effects were pretty good.

For a movie I had no idea what it was about, it turned out to be quite entertaining. Except the ending, which sucked big time!

I didn't care for all the religious bs, but it got pretty annoying by as the movie went on. It would've been good to show the strange creatures (fallen angels?). But it was pretty scary and tense not seeing them at all.

To sum up: it's just another average end-of-the-world, survival and suspense-horror flick.

Don't take it too serious and you might enjoy it.

Not that bad...

THE REMAINING is another end-of-the-world thriller, albeit one told through the found footage medium this time around. It brought back some fond memories of the likes of CLOVERFIELD, although of course it's not as good as that classic. Instead, this one looks at Biblical end times, and in particularly the rapture, and in that respect it's a darn sight better than LEFT BEHIND. I'm not big on religion, but it's not particularly overbearing here; the biggest problem is the usual one, underwritten and unlikeable characters. Still, the disaster scenarios and demon attacks are pretty well handled, so it could be a lot worse.

Religious Brain Wash

During the wedding of Skylar (Alexa PenaVega) and Dan (Bryan Dechart) there is an apocalyptic event that kills most of the guests. The survivors are the newlywed couple and their friends Tommy (Johnny Pacar),Jack (Shaun Sipos) and Allison (Italia Ricci). Skylar is mysteriously wounded and the teenager Sam (Liz E. Morgan) joins the group that seeks shelter in the church of Pastor Shay (John Pyper- Ferguson) that is convinced that they are living The Rapture from the Bible. They discuss faith and the fate of the survivors that are doomed to die.

Religion is a theme that is to be respected. However "The Remaining" is a religious brain wash about Christianity in a view of the Apocalypse. The Brazilian DVD does not provide any information in this regard and I was lured with the DVD cover and bought the DVD expecting to see a horror film. My vote is three.

Title (Brazil): "Remanescentes: Esquecidos por Deus" ("Remaining: Forgotten by God")
