Holocene is an interesting film which seems to be taken from the HIghlander series, the famous Star Trek episode where James Daly was a several thousand year old man, a Twilight Zone episode with Kevin McCarthy as a few millenia old professor and even Mel Brooks's famous 2000 year old man skit. It's the sequel to a film a decade earlier.
Popular professor David Lee Smith gives such vivid lectures on the ancient times that the kids are enthralled. Four of them Sterling Knight, Carlos Knight, Akemi Look, and Brittany Curran do some researh and come across a book by former professor William Katt who says there's a guy who was a former colleague who has had several different past lives in academia.
These four kids come up with a whopping conclusion who Smith is. They capture him as he's about to flee again and tie him up. Unfortunately they leave Sterling Knight who is a born again Christian in charge of watching Smith. Some rather wild dialog follows.
It's an interesting film but I'm thinking we'll not see a third film in a series.

Duncan McLeod is envious
Crucify me, I liked it.
The Man from Earth: Holocene is a worthwhile film, if given the chance. Though quite a fall from the original.
It's an odd choice to go from an old adult cast like the first, to a core young cast. It's hard to see the fan base connecting with the drastic switch and then having both young and old. Vanessa Williams in particular, was a poor casting choice. The first thirty minutes of the film's quite bad. It's little more than a girly television soap with sexual overtones, but the weight from the existing film allow it to drastically improve, which it does. The young cast aren't bad, the characters just don't have a purpose or topic to discuss at the start of the film. Whereas in the previous film, it has already begun as the characters introduced. The young characters here just needed drive and do become the life of the film. I like that Philip took it into his own hands when the opportunity arose, as Art's a limited character and him talking to John would of been pointless.
I understand the hate, if you don't have the patience or get easily distracted, you can lose the path with the poor start to the film. However it still has something to offer, if you have the faith to stick with it.
Dont expect it to be the same
The man from earth is my favorite movie ever made. It is amazing. I love it for the narrative style yet mind blowing content. This movie made my sci-fi loving imagination explode, in the end I gave it a standing ovation while being in my room in front of a PC.
And they made a sequel. And it has nothing to do with the first one, dont expect it to. Yes it is about the same fictional persona, yet the movie style is completely different. Now its a teenage adventure, and, to be honest, I wouldnt even watch it to the end if it wasnt out of respect to the first masterpiece.
So give it a shot, but dont expect it to be on the same level. Its different.. and flat.
