Alright so the story in itself is not really surprising. It would be surprising if anyone is surprised by "twists" or the general progression of the story. Still the actors do a fine job selling their characters and playing off each other. Chemistry works and there are quite a few cameos of musicians (even a short appearnace by DMX for example).
If that floats your boat, you might have fun with this. Especially if you let it play out and just enjoy it for what it is. You might have to be in the right mood for it, liking the music is helping too. Try not to be too cynical and you're halfway there. The movie exist for a reason. It's decent overall.

You know what's up
Doesn't flow well together
Was not expecting much from this Netflix film. The plot is the typical coming of age/underdog story but for an aspiring rapper. It is of course predictable in that when something bad happens, in the end it will all work out. The comedy is lacklustre and the story feels a little far fetched. It definitely feels a little rushed at forced at times.
The acting by the lead is passable and he's easy to root for. The friend tries too hard at being funny. The After Party reminds somewhat of the Harold and Kumar films. Overall the film isn't great but passable at times for fans of hip hop of this generation. Nothing groundbreaking.
Interesting, but not amazing
Just watched it because I love the artist and I wanted to see if it connects with this movie and it partially does which I love.
Positives: Kyle's great at acting
the plot was great
some of the cinematics were amazing
some of the humour is funny.
Negatives: It escalated alot and not many moments in the film other than the hotel part, the freestyles and the ending.
anti climatic
Some bad acting. The crying scene at juices with kyle was shocking, I cringed at the part to be honest.
Kyle as an artist is this goofy, cringy character as he loves to be happy and he tried to put it in his own film, which he did, from reflecting his older hits like lexican and lemonade which was great. This film is brave to be out in 2018 with the "seizure boy" moments because I've seen so much triggered comments about it. I don't get why people are so sensitive over everything and can't take some light hearted fun, it's a film, not reality.
Overall if you like Kyle or you want a goofy "artist in the making" film, this is for you. Expect bad moments, but also enjoy the cool moments as when ski mask appeared in it, Wiz khalifa, t grizzly and more.
I wish there was more to it because it would've been amazing to be honest.
