Predictable clichéd nonsense

Whiny main character, never tries anything interesting to save his own a$$; continues to "challenge" his assailants with whiny indignance when they've just threatened to hurt his wife and daughter. The biggest problem however lies with the assailants, who, like the other characters, are dumb as f#, making the stupidest decisions, having no cover up plan, or any real plan for that matter, as they torture and murder people while trying to steal millions.

Stupid decisions being key here, the MC's wife walks in with the kid, sees blood on the floor, stands face to face with the scruffed up female assailant who says they'd better come back another day, yet the wife, rather than getting the kid out of the house asap and calling the police from a safe distance, insists to see Chris immediately or she'll 'call the police'.

And a helpful bank employer isn't at all suspicious when a man comes in to collect 14 million using his thumbprint as ID but has his arm and thumb wrapped up after some so called accident. Suuuuuure.

During the last 10 seconds the female assailant tells the MC her real name. Like, who the hell cares? The writers were clearly counting on emotions we're not having after 0 character developement.

As for Malkovitch, I wonder why he took on this almost insignificant role? Makes no sense like everything else in and about this movie.

Misery meets Basic Instinct meets Rear Window, and is run over by Dumb and Dumber

Is John Malkovich OK? Seriously - he's very out of place in this ill-conceived idea of a "thriller".

An amalgam of ideas from past classics stitched together for a freshman writing class. Embarrassing acting performances, especially the female lead - to the point where you question if the writer, director and actors were trying to make something purposefully bad as some sort of a statement? I don't understand either.

Dear Mr. Malkovich - blink twice if you are in trouble.

The Sky is the Limit

In a Stephen King horror film, there is at least a little gallows humor sprinkled in with the violence. In the case of "Shattered," the film begins as a sultry romantic drama, then escalates rapidly into the horror genre. But it was too grim and unpleasant without the slightest amount of levity.

Chris Decker is a lonely man. He has sold his tech patents for millions, but lost the most precious things in his life--his wife Jamie and his daughter Willow. Jamie gave up on the marriage because Chris was a workaholic. She also had so little amount of trust in him that she shifted $10 million in bonds out of their shared safe deposit box.

When the mysterious character Sky enters Chris's life, he is at first overwhelmed. Her apparent passion is starting to fill the void in his life. Chris is whipped, and he tells Sky that he loves her. Then, the honeymoon ends abruptly as Sky reveals her true colors as a scheming monster.

The film turned into a very lackluster and predictable home invasion drama. The horror element was over-the-top, especially in the bloody death of Ronald. Was that excessive violence really necessary?

The most interesting part of the film was Chris's confession that he would have given everything to Sky. Chris was a decent soul, and he seemed sincere. The real tragedy of the film is in the experience of Sky (Margaret). If she had been a little more perceptive of human nature and been able to read her victim more completely, she could have recognized that she could have had it all. The sky was the limit for Margaret, and she blew it!
