The novelty is already wearing off.

Having survived the Sharknado in Los Angeles, pro-surfer Fin Shepard (Ian Ziering) and his ex-wife April (Tara Reid) fly to New York City to promote their book, How To Survive A Sharknado, where they find the same thing happening all over again, only on an even bigger scale.

I usually prefer my crap movies to be bad by accident, although I do admit to enjoying intentionally crap disaster flick Sharknado just a bit more than I probably should have done. With this sequel, director Anthony C. Ferrante attempts to outdo his first film in terms of sheer silliness, and largely succeeds with some truly ridiculous set-pieces, but with essentially the same plot (full of gaping plot holes, not that that matters one bit),and equally dire CGI effects, I found that the novelty soon wore off, leaving me rather frustrated by the fact that there are now at least two more sequels, and a bloody good chance that I'll make myself watch them.

Fun and like the first movie a guilty pleasure

As someone who enjoyed the first Sharknado as a guilty pleasure movie, Sharknado 2: The Second One while also glaringly problematic also had its entertainment value. The best thing about Sharknado 2 was the acting from most of the cast, Ian Ziering is a likable lead and deserving of credit for uttering some really ridiculous lines without looking embarrassed and while keeping a straight face. Vivica A. Fox is very cool and Judd Hirsch is amusing though you can see his demise coming a mile away. Faring best were Matt Lauer and Al Roker, who are both riots as weather channel commentators. The movie clearly knew what it wanted to be and like the first movie you knew even from the title and premise exactly what to expect, and it embraces those in an entertainingly goofy way. Finn's post-traumatic stress disorder subplot is done quite movingly, I did identify with Finn here. Sharknado 2 is never what you call dull and never tries to do too much or too little, there are plenty of funny moments- intentional and unintentional- like the ending, the saw hand and Ziering's rodeo ride on a big shark and while it is very corny the dialogue raises a number of laughs. The shark attacks genuinely entertain and they do have some hint of a menacing personality and are utilised reasonably well. The soundtrack is rousing and eerie with a good choice of songs, I'm Going To Take A Bite Of This Big Apple (Before It Takes A Bite Out Of Me) certainly lived up to its witty title. Sharknado 2 does however have its fair share of problems, starting with that the plot is too much of a tired re-hash at times except with a different setting and Tara Reid's unspeakably awful acting, completely expressionless and you know there is something wrong when her scream on the plane is her best acting in the entire movie and even that was bad acting. Andy Dick has also possibly never been worse. There are many cameos, almost never-ending, and while they are fun to spot too many of them served no point to the story therefore were pointless. That there are many new attractions in Sharknado 2 is admirable and while they are fun to watch a lot of them are too short in length and are further hindered from pretty bad to awful CGI. That is the standard for almost all the special effects in the movie sadly, even worse than those in the first. The movie has some atmosphere visually but is a bit slip-shod and drab too often. In conclusion, guilty pleasure fun if nowhere near what you'd call a great movie(though ideally you shouldn't really expect that). 6/10 Bethany Cox

It's raining sharks in New York City

This second Sharknado movie has Ian Ziering and Tara Reid coming to visit some of Ziering's family in New York City. But they're not even arrived when while the plane is preparing to touch down and those ominous storm clouds appear and it's the Sharknado once again. They attack the plane but it's Ziering to the rescue as he brings in the big jet.

That's how it begins, but believe me folks it only gets more ridiculous as things go on. Like King Kong there's a climax on top of the Empire State Building, a romantic one. No Ziering does not marry one of the sharks.

There was an audience for these things. But they get more ridiculous as the sequels are churned out.
