This film is a good example of Director's clarity of mind regarding characterization, mood of scenes and way of approach. Director Mr Vikas Bahl work is fantastic. In spite of very thin story line he projected this movie in a very unique, interesting and entertaining way. This movie speaks less and shows maximum. Screenplay is average. Dialogues by Anvita Dutt and Kangana Ranaut are very good. Even very average scenes are so good just because of expression and the way of taking the scene i.e When Rani goes on stage for dance, she copies other dancers and removes her sweater, rolls it like them but in spite of throwing it like them she keeps it in her bag. The way she struggles with the bag snatcher that this average scene comes out a laughter riot. Director inserted some flash back between the scene, which enhanced the scene very well and also projected some different emotions. Even the small characters are minutely observed . In a scene Rani goes to meet her family friend in Paris but that family ladies discuss about the money given to her just for a good luck or rituals. They minimize the amount because Rani is a distant relative. When Rani lives in Paris with her wonderful room mates, in this complete sequence Rani is wondered so director chose a T-shirt for Rani with quotation Alice in wonderland. This quotation clearly reflects Rani state of mind. Director never goes over board and never let the actors go over board. So, interest and entertainment remain intact. Of course Director has been supported by fantastic performance of actors. Kangana Ranaut is out standing. No one could have have performed better than her. Raj Kumar Yadav is OK. Lisa Haydon as Vijaylaxmi is fantastic. All actors are very good including Rani's Paris room mates. Music by Amit Trivedi suits the mood of film.

One of the most commercially successful & critical acclaimed film of 2014 yet, 'Queen' is a major winner & worthy of every honor yet received. Its a Stupendous film, that encourages the spirit of Women in India. Its a step forward.

'Queen' Synopsis: A Delhi girl from a traditional family sets out on a solo honeymoon after her marriage gets canceled.

'Queen' narrates its protagonist, Rani's journey with a sense of fun & freedom. Her journey involves heartbreak, friendship & above-all, self-assurance. Its a brilliantly written character, whose journey is equally brilliant.

Vikas Bahl's Screenplay is very well-done. His Direction, on the other-hand, is proper. Cinematography by the late Bobby Singh, captures the stunning foreign locales, wonderfully. Music by Amit Trivedi is awesome.

Performance-Wise: Kangna is adorable as Rani/Queen. She enacts the naive yet lovable protagonist, with rare ease & understanding. Its without a shed of doubt, her finest performance to date. Also marvelous is Lisa Haydon, who steals the first-hour of the film, with a terrific performance. Her sequences with Kangna, are among the highlights of the film. Rajkummar Rao enacts the troublemaker character, effectively.

On the whole, this 'Queen' has the heart to rule yours, as well.

So, there is a guy who is supposed to be like every other men in India who is sadist, masochist & dominating and wants his fiancée to be tortured as a homemaker inside the four walls of the house which he single-handedly manages, after marriage. He won't let her work, drive, get social and in the filmmaker's words... he won't let her enjoy.

Enter screenplay and you are shown preparations of an upper middle-class family wedding. The bride is all innocent and excited for that moment which only comes once in a life. She's also excited about the honeymoon in which she will finally shun her demureness. But the guy kicks in as a scumbag and speaks about break-up. She is devastated, evident from the emotional songs & brilliant background score. Next, the non-linear screenplay shows how she decides to visit Paris, her favorite place she always wanted to visit. She sets off.

Then you will see some portions of English Vinglish, with Ranaut's character fooling around and finally befriending a sexy, dolled-up neighbor who has the hots to make the protagonist's father weak in his knees. There is no electricity in India at her maternal home, but still they can chat with her daughter who is now living with a stranger, who happens to know Hindi a bit.

Then, just like Sridevi befriended few people of the world in English Vinglish, Rani, the character befriends 3 supposed bachelors viz., an American, a possible Chinese and a European - to fit the bill, you see. She lives-in with them in a 5 by 5 rickety flat and starts enjoying life. She intoxicates herself with alcohol and instantly converts to an extrovert from being all that coy. She still dreams of her days with her husband-to-be, who is brilliantly enacted by Rajkummar Rao.

The climax is anticlimactic and was purposely botched up to suit the whole melodrama the film deciphers: that womanhood can be best realized when you travel cross-country, stay with strangers, get inebriated, visit red-light districts, and finally toss the tension into a bin. At the end of the day, Queen strives on elements that are emotive and tries to reflect the current debate marred in the nooks of politics in India. The execution? The cliché-stagecraft-sympathy-empathy-carpe-diem combination only looks shiny on-screen; real life is a lot less scripted; that is where it slips into a roadside ditch and smothers in its vomit.

BOTTOM LINE: I seriously cannot take this type of heavy melodrama, but when a family consisting of two women - one 27, other 52 - has the same idea of the film's review, you know how average it is. Kangana Ranaut's performance was mildly interesting but I'll vote for Rao anytime. Supporting cast manages to entertain.
