Plot summary
Meet Sampson: An introvert who has just graduated high school and spends his last days of summer contemplating his life. No one ever told Sampson Mitchell that going off to college was going to be easy, but that didn't stop them from badgering him on how he should be excited to start a new chapter in his life. With a mind floating back and forth between the present and the past, Sampson tries his best to avoid thinking of his upcoming future. Not wanting to leave full of regret, Sampson decides to form a list of things he should do before college, using his last school newspaper as inspiration. Not wanting to let these feeling go, Sampson asks out Alexa in attempt to reconnect with her and to try and maintain a hold on his life. They spend the night talking, reconnecting, and helping each other realize things that they couldn't realize on their own through honesty and compassion.

Hardest to get through
These kind of talking movie is alright for me but the pre-requisite is with beautiful scene or happen like a road trip somewhere in Europe. If not, the actor actress must be very attractive to me. If not, there must have something outbreak content, secret disclosure etc. This movie just two teen conservation and unable to make me stay focus. The content just teen talks. Wrong target group this movie to me.
I liked it
Don't be turned off by the lengthy runtime. It is nearly two-and-a-half hours, but it does not feel like it at all. Once I got into the story a bit, I was locked in and found myself wanting to see what happens next.
One Summer Night is a conversation piece where the two leads Sampson (Conner Keesling) and Alexa (Julia Dent) are walking and talking, revealing information gradually to the audience while they are each having an inner crisis about going to college. The dialogue can be sometimes generic or over-prefaced (where one character tries to setup their point to the other for a while),but in this case I accepted it because high schoolers are walking clichés. Many can talk like this to an extent, so it adds to the grounded approach in a way. I don't necessarily expect slick, fast, Aaron Sorkin style dialogue. The important thing here is that Sampson and Alexa feel real to the audience and evoke a pathos at some point in the feature.
The movie has its flaws, but there is also a rawness to those flaws that I like and that keep me interested while watching. The themes of the film and the way I relate to some of the material really makes One Summer Night stick with me hours after viewing.
