This is very entertaining story with a lot of humor but with substance also. It's about a 16 year old girl whose father recently died and she feels a bit lost when her mother leaves her with her (hilariously wacky) grandparents for a while. The she meets the goth boy next door and the fun really begins.
Plot summary
My Summer as a Goth is a coming-of-age story about the sometimes painful-often entertaining-search for identity and love in adolescence. After the sudden death of her father, 16-year-old, Joey Javitts is sent to stay with her eccentric grandparents while her author mother promotes her latest novel. Joey promptly falls for the beguiling Goth boy next door, Victor, and is transformed by him and his merry band of misfits in black. Set in present-day Portland, My Summer as a Goth navigates Joey's relationships with her new friends, her family and herself, and will resonate with anyone who survived the social alienation of adolescence-and that first summer heartbreak.

Excellent teenage romance story
Poorly done but good fun
It is clunky and the diologe delivered like real life speach which isn't easy to watch when we have cleaner and easier films in the mainstream. However there are webseries that are acclaimed that have done worse. Its sweet, fun and dark worth a watch.
Not a bad film
I use to be part of both the Goth and punk scene so this flick kinda hits close to home. The plot is simple: Girl named Joey is dealing with her fathers death and is estranged from her mother, gets sent to stay with her grandparents for the summer and meets a goth guy that shows her his lifestyle. For me, getting into goth as a teen was complicated because you will always bump into people that lecture you on how to dress and act THEIR way. I thought it was gonna be a dumb teen film with no messages whatsoever at the end and the mother ends up bonding with her and accepts her lifestyle choice. Luckily its not that kind of film and more about finding self-esteem and knowing your true friends from the fake ones. It gets a little melodramatic and sometimes preachy with its message but its not overbearing.
It ain't no Breakfast Club or Pretty in pink but it's a teen film with the right messages.
As for the accuracy of the Goth scene, its kinda whatever. I do like the joke in the film were Antonio asks Joey if she wanted to Listen to Bela lugosi's dead and she didn't even know the name of the song lol.
