Comic Reflections of Indie Filmmakers

Arguably few movie concepts can be best optimized on a micro-budget, hence the indie filmmaker's internal quest for that conceptual epiphany that can one day become fully realized for little spend. Accomplished director-screenwriter Alex Ferrari finds that idea in the mirror, and here we see him grinning back at himself with knowing self-deprecation in the excellent "On The Corner of Ego and Desire."

Three aspiring but cranially misled indie filmmakers make the holy pilgrimage to the Sundance Film Festival to source a buyer for their obvious masterpiece. This band of dreamers each manifest commonly accepted stereotypes of the indie moviemaker: The producer pinched the budget from mom's savings, the director thinks she's Oscar-bound, and the editor is a dumping ground for everyone's ills. Naiveté and hubris joyously reign supreme in this shrewdly-crafted comedy.

"On The Corner of Ego and Desire" was shot in a mockumentary style not dissimilar to the legendary "This Is Spinal Tap (1984)." And just as "Tap" can present to musicians as both hilarious and all too real, so will this one ring comically and perhaps jarringly true to indie filmmakers. Yet by flexing elite moviemaking acumen while on a limited budget, Ferrari paradoxically provides massive inspiration to that same populous he lightheartedly pokes at. This film is a surefire gold standard for those striving for big things on limited means. - (Was this review of use to you? If so, let me know by clicking "Helpful." Cheers!)

Filmmakers will appreciate the humor and drama

Ego and Desire is an excellent title for this film because it sums up a lot about filmmakers and the industry. It's "laugh out loud" at times and, yes, it has it's dramatic moments too - filmmaking is HARD business. If you've never gone down that path, this film may give you a glimpse into the life and times of filmmakers. Obsessive, delusional, naive, full of passion, and energy, until you run out of steam. Great job to Alex and his team for creating this mockumentary about filmmaking.

A really fun film!

Alex Ferrari film and ideas are really great at showing self-deprecating humor executing a well crafted, "On The Corner of Ego and Desire." Three aspiring indie filmmakers make a really fun journey to the Sundance Film Festival to try to sell their self-declared masterpiece. They each show very real stereotype of the indie moviemaker: The producer, using his mother's savings, the director who's delusional and the editor trying to navigate everyone's craziness. This is a truly well crafted and very funny comedy. If you like films about the business and characters driving by ego and desire you'll love this film.
