Holiday fluff

Just a sweet movie featuring Lawrence brothers who are super nice in person btw....so it's nice to see them in a fun family Christmas romp. Of course it is predictable but that's just the formula for a sweet little Christmas movie.

Romantic comedy that starts well but goes down the drain.

Holly is a hard working ad executive who is convinced by her boss and friend to make a wish for love and to take a real vacation once she meets Mr. Wright x2. Holly makes a magical wish on mistletoe to meet her Mr. Right. Her friend doesn't hear her thanks to her noisy kids...so she makes Holly say it agin, hence two wishes to meet Mr. Right. Her boss also convinces her to get a Christmas tree, and when a tree falls on her a very nice gentleman named Tom Wright helps her out. After a little flirtation Tom ties the tree on Holly's car and asks if her if he can take her out to dinner in the future...Holly gives Tom her number. On the way home, the tree flies off of the car and knocks down a walker who turns out to be a young handsome and engaging guy named Austin who helps her home with the tree. They enjoy each other's company so much that it becomes a whole evening...they decorate the tree, have take out....talk, laugh, etc. When Austin leaves he leaves a note saying "call me" and his number.

Holly almost immediately sends a text message...to which Austin never responds. She sends a couple additional texts with no response. Thinking that Austin ghosted her, she accepts Tom's dinner invitation when he calls. Tom and Holly go out to dinner and have a nice time. When Tom finds out she has no family and no plans for Christmas, he invites her to his family's ski cabin. She ends up agreeing to go and when she arrives who but Austin answers the door. As it turns out he gave her a landline number...and he and Tom are brothers.

This sets up the ugly portion of the film where the two brothers behave badly competing for Holly's attention.

Most of the film was enjoyable, great scenery, gorgeous cast, fun seeing so many in the Lawrence family, but the competition between the brothers really took a dive into a real juvenile slap sticky farce that I didn't enjoy with my romantic comedy.

Lots to like...but spoiled by the juvenile turn.

A Mistletoe Mess

Well, I've heard of keeping it in the family but this takes the cake. I knew I was in trouble when I saw Lawrence all over the opening titles but thought, what the heck. I'll give it a shot.

Let's start with Joey. I knew he was in the movie but when I saw him in the Christmas tree scene I thought it was a brother. He wasn't recognizable as Joey. Maybe when you reach a certain age you should consider a different haircut. And, there was just something about those eyebrows. WT... For whatever reason I've never been a fan. Right from the start on Gimme A Break with that silly tag word: Whoa! He's never been able to lose that New York/Jersey accent which adds to his silliness. Sorry Joey. Next.

Enter Matthew. Well, he and his character are pretty likable in this but ya know, some guys just shouldn't do the scruff look. If you can't do a full beard don't do any. Please. I found myself rooting for him anyway.

The acting itself isn't so terrible as to make it unwatchable but this movie would have been better served with decent writing. Also, there aren't enough people who like this family enough to watch them all together. It just smacks of nepotism. I'm over it.

Sorry. I didn't mean to make this a Lawrence bashing but it's challenging not to go there. Show me something with just Joey or just Matthew. Get past the silliness and do something real.

Danielle would do herself well to read the script before accepting a part. Who's managing her, for Godsakes? She's able and way above this mess.

A silly terrible mess. They should've spent more time on development of the relationship rather than fighting over a girl with your brother. Wish I were a consultant.
