Acceptable adaptation of the great novel

The Italian commentator is right, since the film does not show the Russian army when they help the Habsburgs to defeat the Hungarians. Neither shows the film Zebulon Tallérossy, a very interesting character of the book, nor Ödön's meeting with Leonin in Hungary. And it doesn't turn out of the film, why the Plankenhorsts wanted to hinder Edit's and Richárd's marriage.

But all the battle scenes are excellent in the film. The film shows the Baradlays' fights very well. The actors and actresses were great.

So the film is very recommendable, but it does not compensate the original book.

Great movie

Great movie, great actors!

This was the best period of Hungarian movie industry - financed by the communist regime - that explains the missing parts.

It is interesting that since 1989 - the first year of the reforms and the year when the Russian army has left the country - we can not talk anymore about "hungarian giant movies" - the financing of movies like "koszivu ember fiai" is not possible anymore. This is sad...

I recommend some other movies of that period - i would say that these are all really quality movies from the 60's, and 70's: - Karpathy Zoltan - Egy Magyar nabob - Egri Csillagok - Szegeny gazdagok - Liliomfi

The fight of Hungarians against Austrian Habsburg Empire

I saw this good film nearly 25 years ago, and it showed me the fight of Hungarians for their independence from Habsburg Empire during mid 19th Century. The film is based on the story written by Mor Jokai. The scenes were well designed as well as the epic events. The major shortcoming of the film is that it did not show how Russian Tsar came over Hungary to support the Austrian Empire. This type of manipulation seems to be done intentionally, let's not forget that the film was made in 1965, i.e. when Hungary was a satellite of former USSR.
