I have and will always be a fan of hers. However, this tour/concert is without a doubt the worst thing she's done. She did this in promotion of her absolute worst album. Sadly, she decided to tour the majority of her new album and do a very limited number of her favorites. Instead of spicing this show up with some more fan favorites or classics, she decided to show Madame X down everyone's throat.
Reading the film, it's the best she could possibly take out of this show.
Plot summary
Filmed in Lisbon, Portugal, the film captures the pop icon's rare and rapturous tour performance, hailed by sold out theatrical audiences worldwide. The unprecedented intimate streaming experience will take viewers on a journey as compelling and audacious as Madonna's fearless persona, Madame X, a secret agent traveling around the world, changing identities, fighting for freedom and bringing light to dark places.

Worst tour for her worst album
Only 49 reviews, mine included, that says it all...
Madonna once was a superstar. Now she is NOT.
She looks old and rather ridiculous, still (desperately) trying to look young.
Her music is still worth listening too. She is one of the few bubblegum artists of the eighties, who evolved into seriously good musicians. I love to listen to many of her albums. Even the new ones, BUT...
The bad: this show s9(ks. It's one long woke show. WHY? Because Madonna thinks she is hip, being woke. WRONG. It's pathetic.
Only suited for diehard Madonna fans, but even for those I would hesitated to recommend this show, which is more of a theatershow than a music show...
Top Notch: Madonna delivers
If you can't stand women over 60 performing or being sexually or politically motivated, then don't watch. What's the use if you're already irritated by all of this which is the current Madonna.
'This is not real,' she states early on in the show. Her own take on 'Ceci n'est pas une pipe.' It's art, expression, a pamphlet, a gathering. An edited video, auto tune, excellent choreography, gorgeous set design, beautiful lightning, great dancers, musicians, singers, costumes.
It's a construct. A beautiful construct.
And by the way, I loved the editing.
People complain about the auto tune, about her not being like how she was in the 90's. How she changed. What she is doing to her body etc etc. In a way the same old harsh critiques which followed her, her whole life.
Who cares about her plastic surgery, her age, her sexuality. Who cares she went back into a sound studio to re-record parts of these performances so the sound for this film would be better. It's art. If it needs auto tuning and re-recording so be it. Judge the film on its own merits. Don't see it as a concert registration. See it as the Gesamtkunstwerk it is.
You can't be too shy when you want to be a freedom fighter. She tells one member of her audience. She also states that being mysterious helps her to fight her misery. The woman is giving this her all. A big message of love and unity. But to get to this love and unity you need to fight those who want to suppress it.
Madonna is in a league of her own. She bares it all. And she knows what she's doing. My wish is she'll go further off the grid. That she'll become even more outspoken, artistically. So what she'll become a fringe artist at this stage of her career? She gets her inspiration from and recognises herself in (former) fringe artists. She should do more theatrical performances. Perhaps less concerts and even more art. That's what she really wants, deep down. So I hope she won't be too shy and become even m o r e the real artist she is inside.
This is a beautiful film. Well made with real substance.
