'I, Frankenstein' was very poorly received by critics, and at the box office. So, why did I enjoy it so much then?
Well, the visual effects, photography and make-up were good. There's demons, gargoyles, Aaron Eckhart, Bill Nighy - who is fantastic as always -, and scruffy and muscular Gideon (Jai Courtney),so why wouldn't I like this film? 'I, Frankenstein' is a twist on the classic Frankenstein tale. In fact, it deviates significantly from what we know about Frankenstein's creation - and I enjoyed this original idea of an age-old tale. Frankenstein's creature is named Adam by the Gargoyle Queen.
Yvonne Strahovski stars as brilliant scientist, Terra, whom I really enjoyed in the film. I liked her involvement - as a human - in a battle between creatures of good and evil. Despite's Adam's inability to show emotion, there somehow was a nice chemistry between him and Terra - not of romantic nature, off course. The film's final moments are action-packed with a bit too much CGI, but I nevertheless enjoyed it.
So, while critics hated the film, I rather enjoyed it, thank you! The ending leaves the door wide open for a sequel. Apparently a sequel was cancelled due to the film's poor performance at the box office. Sadly.
Would I watch it again? Yes.

Plot summary
Dr Victor Frankenstein freezes to death and his creature buries him at his family's cemetery. He is attacked by demons but he kills one of them and Gargoyles save him and take him to a Cathedral where the Gargoyles Order gathers. The Queen of the Gargoyles, Leonore, keeps Dr. Frankenstein's journal together with the treasures of the Order, names the creature Adam, and explains to him that there is an ancient war between the Gargoyles that are angels and demons under the command of Prince Naberius. She also invites Adam to join the Gargoyles in the war against demons, but Adam prefers to isolate in a remote place. 200 years later, Adam returns and finds a modern society. Soon he learns that Naberius has the intention of creating an army of soulless corpses to be possessed by demons. The scientist Terra is researching a process to create life and Naberius is seeking Dr Frankenstein's journal to help Terra and raise his army.

A Generally poorly received film I rather enjoyed.
I, watch
The Frankenstein origin story a bit tweaked. I'm guessing you're familiar with it, not only because of countless movies being made about it, but because of the original story too. Or maybe you just heard about it. This takes a more fantastical turn for it and tries to make it as entertaining as possible.
It's not a classic or anything that will be remembered as a great movie. It can be an entertaining watch though, if you let it. The lead character is interesting enough and the origin story or the story in general is told decently enough. It's a family movie so don't expect it to be too violent or too extreme in some regards. Just take it for what it is and try to enjoy it
Appropriately soulless
I, FRANKENSTEIN is yet another in a long-line of horror-themed Hollywood CGI blockbusters. These are all inevitably family-orientated fare which feature endless random action and effects sequences but very little in the way of originality, wit, or depth. I, FRANKENSTEIN - the title is a misnomer, as it's actually about Frankenstein's Monster - comes across as a child-friendly version of the UNDERWORLD franchise mixed up with a little VAN HELSING.
Great care is taken in setting up a world populated by virtuous gargoyles and evil demons, with Aaron Eckhart's scarred creature wandering around aimlessly in the middle. It's a bit like YOJIMBO if you took all the good stuff out of that tale and left just a bare skeleton behind. All the viewer is left with is one fight scene after another, with BLADE-style effects of demons burning up and exploding in flames.
The only good thing I can say about this is that the calibre of the special effects is quite good and, having seen it in high definition, it looks fantastic visually. What a shame, then, that a team of scriptwriters couldn't come up with something more original and insightful than the usual trash for the masses; just think how many good films that sixty-five million dollar budget could have funded! As usual, various old-timer actors prop up the supporting cast, including Bill Nighy (seemingly willing to appear in any old tat for money),Miranda Otto (LORD OF THE RINGS),Jai Courtney (SPARTACUS),and, bizarrely, various cast members from NEIGHBOURS (including the pretty Caitlin Stasey). The reason for the latter turns out to be that this was made in Australia...
