Why is the rating so high for a movie so horrible??

I'm losing confidence in IMDb rating. This is the 2nd time I watched a movie based on the rating and within 20 minutes was left scratching my head wondering what could have gotten the movie such a high rating. My suspicion is all the staff of the movie goes to IMDb and click on the best rating without leaving a review which is why there is less reviews from real people and a lot of votes.

This movie is predictable and cliché. Some scenes dragged out too long and you start counting the minutes to when it's going to end. When they 'think' they have a winning scene, they repeat again and again and again. That cliché of everything going dark and suddenly something scary pops in front of you screaming is no longer a shock, it's what everyone starts to expect hence NOT scary. Then it disappear then it comes back, then it disappears then it comes back. Seriously its like a game of pop the squirrel. Just give me a hammer and I'll pop the bloody thing's head.

I gave up after 30 minutes and forwarded to the end. It was funny, that she got saved at the end by someone so unlikely and she is not even surprised. God that scene dragged out for minutes and for viewers movie minutes feel like hours.

This is NOT a good movie. It's been done so many times. No shock value, no surprises, no real scares. And the captured girl already delivered the best review like in the first ten minutes - let me go or you will all die tonight. Thanks for the warning.

Becomes routine

FROM A HOUSE ON WILLOW STREET is another B-movie horror flick that goes down the traditional route of demonic possession and a gore effects in order to attract viewer attention. It's all rather cheap and passe, let down by unappetising direction and ill-drawn characters; about the only thing it has going for it are the not-bad special effects and the pacing, which is fast enough to make this fly along. Sadly the plotting is entirely predictable and any kind of promise evident at the outset soon disappears in a welter of routine death and bloodletting.

No One is Afraid of the Dark

For six weeks, Hazel (Sharni Vinson),Ade (Steven John Ward),James (Gustav Gerdener) and Mark (Zino Ventura) plots a plan to abduct the daughter of a jewelry dealer Katherine (Carlyn Burchell). When they break in the house of the family on Willow Street, Ade sees cabalistic symbols in her wardrobe and then he brings the young woman to an abandoned facility in a van. They chain Katherine in the basement and video-tape her. They send the video to her family and calls her father to ask for the ransom. They are not able to contact him by phone and Ade and James drive the van back to the house to talk to him. However they find Katherine's parents dead on their bed and two priests died on the basement. Ade finds a couple of videotapes and bring them to their hideout. When they watch the video, they see that they have unleashed a demon and they are doomed to die.

"From a House on Willow Street" is a creepy and scary horror film. The story and the screenplay are very well written increasing the tension along the new discoveries of the criminals. The lead character Hazel is very well developed and the gruesome locations and the dark cinematography supports the plot. The optimist conclusion is a little deceptive since there is no explanation why the demon became weaker but fans of genuine horror film will enjoy "From a House on Willow Street". My vote is seven.
