Two dogs named Chance (voice by Michael J. Fox) and Shadow (voice by Don Ameche) and a cat named Sassy (voice by Sally Field) are left behind when the family that owns them goes on vacation. They are not sure what happened and therefore they have to find the family. An incredible journey is what is next.

This is a movie for all ages but especially kids will love this. The animals, the beautiful nature, some nice and funny moments, a good heart and a happy ending, everything what a movie for the whole family needs. Of course the story is simple and some events are quite impossible, but with movies like this you are not suppose to ask too many questions and you must not be too critical.

I absolutely love Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey always delightful experience! So much cuteness packed into a dangerous and wonderful exploration so much greatness for an animal film! I even get goosebumps at some of it. The cast is perfect for it too.

It's always fun to watch your pets discover the great outdoors, and even a sassy cat can have fun. They are trying to get back to their original home after they think that they've been abandoned by their persons, mom Kim Greist and her three kids, and the new stepdad, Robert Hays. What's really happened is that they have been just dropped off a distant relative Jean Smart's farm, and old Shadow ( the voice of veteran actor Don Ameche) leads away, being the sensible one while younger pooch Chance (Michael J. Fox) and the rightly named Sassy (Sally Field),a typical Siamese cat who thinks she's all that.

"Cats rule and dogs drool", she proclaims and makes chance say in moments of blackmail, but she finds very quickly that she's going to need to be a part of the team if they are going to survive this. Canine and feline must put their prejudices about other kinds of animals behind each other if they're going to make it, and it's nice watching them come to bond, with the self centered Sassy learning a great lesson and Chance growing up. Shadow is the most vulnerable with his age a definite issue, and anybody who has witnessed this with their own pet will feel that vulnerability, as well as memories of such classic animal movies as "Old Yeller" and "Marley and Me".

So bring out the handkerchiefs for several moments because it will be needed, and you'll get it also a beautiful glimpse of the mountains above San Francisco as well as a variety of other animals including Bart the Bear, a scary turkey, deer, raccoons, skunks and jackrabbits. Some of the dialogue does seem a bit too human but it's easy to overlook because of the engaging and good-hearted nature of the film. This was justifiably a big head and inspired an almost as good sequel, but sadly this was Ameche's last film, ending a career that lasted nearly 60 years.
