Funny, smart and romantic heist movie. Suited for Keanu Reeves' romantic comedy fans and for James Caan heist fans. Ideal blend of romance and witty crime.

Mix a romantic comedy with a heist movie and you have got "Henry's Crime": a lighthearted blend of a budding romance and a funny heist.

Keanu reeves fans (NOT the action fans) who like to see him romantically involved in a lighthearted romantic comedy will be served with some playful, witty flirting.

James Caan fans (the older generation) will love this movie for the witty heist story, in which James Caan (as always) plays the cool, calm and collected gentleman gangster. Caan is so COOL!

Funny, smart and lovely story about a bankheist DURING a theatre performance, which takes place exactly UNDERNEATH the very theatre. A smart and witty blend of acting and real crime. Suited for young and old, for family or for a romantic date. A crowd pleaser of the best kind.

Keanu, Vera and James Are Very Good Here

I understand why some people did not like this very good film - it is slower, and it is not The Matrix, or Konstantin. This is a very good work, and yes, Keanu's character is a bit slow, silent and detached - but here is what he is like. His role is balanced perfectly by fiery and very funny James Caan who did a very, very excellent job. His part of a con-man is a great plus, and his part is almost The best in here. Vera Farmiga is another great plus of the movie, her part of a Russian theater actress is very cool, too. She does a perfect Diva here, and does it extremely convincing way. Well, yes, the movie is not a fast and furious action one, but this was not the intent. The very theater style of the film is obvious, and the nice link to the Chekhov's play is a warm heart-thawing welcome for all Russian viewers. Keanu is a very good Lopakhin and Vera is a very sweet Ranevskaya. And then, yeah, here is excellent Peter Stormare as a choleric and very short-tempered theater director with all his idiosyncrasies and craze. Casting was done very well, and this stellar ensemble of actors is a mighty element for the great movie.

They Owed Him A Crime

Last year when Keanu Reeves and the rest of the cast was here in Buffalo shooting Henry's Crime, there was a great deal of civic pride that some film company and a major star had found Buffalo praiseworthy enough to shoot a motion picture here. Certain Buffalo landmarks were quite recognizable on Main Street and I'm convinced that the use of the famous Shea's Theater was the main reason for the shoot. A great deal of the film is shot inside there because a production of Anton Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard is integral to the plot.

There are two crimes in Henry's Crime. The first is the one Keanu Reeves got left holding the bag for when he drove some friends to what was an ATM stop and it turned out to be a bank robbery on Buffalo's Main Street. After doing the time and spending it there with a wise old convict played by James Caan, Reeves decides that maybe the state owes him one bank robbery.

In the meantime Reeves gets a romance going with actress Vera Famiga who tells her director he's a natural to play in their stock company production of The Cherry Orchard. That works out real well because from Shea's Theater there is an old tunnel that runs across the street to the Buffalo Savings Bank which actually is one block down. The tunnel was from Prohibition days and it's a long tunnel.

Reeves's two friends from the first robbery who suckered him Fisher Stevens and Danny Hoch cut themselves in as well as Bill Duke the security guard who nailed Reeves the first time also cut themselves in. You have to see the film for the rest.

Henry's Crime for me has its moments. Reeves is a confusing mixture of dis-ingenuousness and innocence in his character. James Caan as the worldly wise convict steals the film for me. But I wound up asking myself what have I just seen when I finished the film.

By the way on Main Street in Buffalo there is no automobile traffic save for police and emergency vehicles and mail and UPS trucks. What he was driving there for would have been picked up immediately by any resident of this city.

But we're all not from Buffalo.
