Funny dark satire.

If I have to be honest I didn't expect much of this movie with a title like that, but in all fairness I did enjoy this black satirical comedy. It had much more 'fun' moments then I expected. The thick British accent from some of the actors made some conversations even more hilarious. The cast was surprisingly good as the whole cast brought something special to the story. A story that is easy to watch and that will make you laugh if you have a good sense of humor. The movie will probably not have as much success as a big Hollywood production but it deserves it probably much more.

Funny or die

Something along those lines. You realize fairly early on, what this is about and where this is heading. The characters are really funny and have gravitas to them. It helps having some solid actors portraying them, especially the "Killer"/professopmal.

While there are not many surprises along the way, it still is quite a nice ride. It might be a bit too nice at places, but it is to be expected. This is something you can't hold against the movie, because it stays true to itself and the tone it sets out from the start. And it stays on that, with the same pace and quality until the end.

Dead in a Week (Or Your Money Back)

I saw the trailer for this British film, it wasn't in the cinema for very long, and I decided to go and see it on its final day of showing, it looked and sounded good, so I hoped it would be. Basically young hapless writer William (Aneurin Barnard) has made seven unsuccessful attempts (nine, as he counts cries for help) to commit suicide. During his most recent attempt, before jumping off a bridge, he was approached by Leslie (Tom Wilkinson),who gave him his card and offered to help him. After calling Leslie, they meet in a café, where the old man reveals he is an assassin for hire, from a secret organisation, he is offering to kill William during the course of week. Leslie's price is £2,000, William will not see his assassination, which he has chosen to be quick and painless, as it's the only option he can afford, and if he is not dead in a week, he will be refunded his money. William explains his reasons for wanting to take his own life, he questions the point of his existence and has nothing significant to live for, he signs a contract. Leslie has a good heart, and an understanding wife in Penny (Marion Bailey),but his aging is causing him to have an unsteady hand, William will be his last kill, to meet his quota, before he retires. William gets a surprise phone call from Ellie (Freya Mavor),who represents someone who is interested in publishing his submitted book. William is still wanting to die, but now he has this opportunity, he asks Leslie if the assassination can be delayed, Leslie assure him that this is fine, but with details of his meeting location, he plans to carry out the hit. The meeting is going well, but Leslie fires and misses William, accidentally killing the publisher, and an innocent waiter. William tried to delay Leslie, but the old man sees the contract he signed as binding, and he has already received the money, so Ellie helps him to go into hiding. Leslie meets with the head of the assassin's guild, Harvey (Christopher Eccleston),who is angry about his missed kill, about Leslie killing a man that was due to be hit by killer Ivan (Velibor Topic),and he demands he do his job properly. William and Ellie get closer as they remain in hiding, he also opens up about his troubled past, including his parents being killed by a falling piano. Leslie manages to track them down, researching details about Ellie, William tries to reason with Leslie, explaining that he now has something to live for, not just the chance for a book deal, but being with Ellie. But Leslie is apparently a target himself, Harvey has tasked Ivan with killing him, due to his mistakes, and not meeting his quota. Ivan appears and tries to kill them all, but they get the better of him, shooting the killer dead, and to cover up for themselves, William signs a new contract that puts Ivan in the frame. In the end, William now feels happy to be alive, and wants to enjoy life with Ellie, and Leslie is seemingly allowed to retire in peace. Also starring Gethin Anthony as Charlie, Nigel Lindsay as Brian, Emma Campbell-Jones as William's Mum, Vicious star Marcia Warren as Margaret, Nathalie Buscombe as Anne, Keir Charles as William's Dad and Eileen Nicholas as Trish. Wilkinson is good as the kindly killer who wants to help but sticks to his principles, Barnard is alright as the young man who is happy to meet his fate but slowly tries to avoid the inevitable, and Eccleston putting on a cockney accent does well in his short time on screen. The theme of assisted suicide is usually not a pleasant one, but the script is witty enough that it becomes something to laugh at, the discussion of Michael J. Fox films is a small highlight, it may not fully deliver on its premise, turns predictable at times, and some attempts at humour are too obvious, but it is an entertaining enough black comedy. Worth watching!
