The issue is that the creators of the film actually seem to take it seriously.
Stop being apologists. If a film like this came out of any other country especially USA and the annoyingly cutesie japanese actresses were replaced with white and black, the film would be trashed and ignored as another straight to DVD B film that would never see the light of day.
This is an intended genre in Japan. Gore, Pink. They are intentionally absurd and tacky movies because there was a time in film that films were actually like this. Many of these films were consecutively directed by the same people who also direct porn. These films intentionally come across like porn movies with the sex scenes edited out, if you can imagine, making these films kinky and implying sex the whole time so that you can wander off in curiosity or actual arousal to the director's bizarre porn collection. This isn't a speculation. I don't feel like googling his name but look at the director of Zombie Toilet of the Dead. He directed many of these Pink gore films that you know, this one not included; the director here is hiroyuki yamaguchi for the record if anyone recognizes the name. Whereas the other director is just a total loony pervert, not that I mind lol but this is just the point that I'm making that Bloody Chainsaw Girl is either intended Pink Gore, or that the crew really took this project seriously. If it's Pink Gore the film is perfect. Being what it is, anyway: comedic kinky gory trash, splatter parody, torture porn. Which I like. Sometimes not comedic, like Hana Dama.
If it's not Pink Gore, this film is horrible and stupid, an embarrassment, a joke. The Power Rangers has better effects and acting. I don't understand making something so bad.
For example.....the opening credits make it seem like they really were trying to prepare the viewers for a thrilling epic action ride! It's very similar to the intro of Hell Girl Jigoku Shoujo anime and High School of the Dead, long raven haired schoolgirl, visual kei effects, splatter graphics, J Rock theme, montage of stunts and cutting to cast intro with their face and name....as if this really will be a kicka-- joyride. Plus, the film as marketed as ACTION/ADVENTURE, NOT comedy... I don't think it was meant to be funny. I think we were meant to simply find the main actress character cool and sarcastic as she mocks her enemies and then we say WOW to her AMAZING (weak and lame) stunts. Also the cross dressing enemy they had was probably meant to be disturbing and eerie and shocking and a credit to the "edgy, diverse" actor but it was tacky and kinky and embarrassing instead. Part of me feels it was supposed to be? But if that's the case then it simply cannot be taken seriously. What exactly do they want....? Instead, because of her horrible acting and the horrible setup and the horrible stunts, the whole thing was unfunny and cringe and it fails as an Action Adventure. It succeeds as a Pink Gore, but it's not stated to be one.....Japan should just do Pink Gore and Rom Com and LEAVE action adventure to EVERYONE ELSE.

Ridiculous
"How many times do I have to tell you to leave your chainsaw at home?"
What's in the black carry bag? Well it's not a musical instrument, nor sports equipment. She's a girl in clogs, hauling a chainsaw who takes pride in her family's wrecking business. Let her show those inherited talents of wielding a chainsaw. Get that saw started. While it might not cut through the top-end of those excessively trendy Japanese splatter films of the same ilk. "BLOODY CHAINSAW GIRL" is amusingly loony SOV nonsense none the same.
While all dressed up (just look at that beast of a chainsaw!),the budget does limited how far it can go. This only highlights the thin, stretched out premise built around striking visual gimmicks (trap-jaw drooling cyborg),a heavy dose of (dodgy) CGI carnage, exaggerated performances and showdowns after showdowns of a delinquent high-school girl (Rio Uchida) and her custom made chainsaw going up against fellow students turned mutant cyborgs by an overzealous student outcast (Mari Yamachi) holding an unknown grudge towards her. All she wants to do is complete her exam, but the school grounds become a battlezone.
The way the narrative is put together is beyond slapdash, sometimes even sputtering along when it slows down for some reflective monologues and character building flashbacks. But that's broken up by its slow-mo duels and tongue-in-cheek approach, as the confident protagonist uncontrollably laughs off everything she encounters. Like the moment where a couple of students come out of nowhere to awkwardly load artillery into the ass of one of these cyborgs that shoots missiles from her vagina. Yeah, that pretty much defines what you're going to get with "BLOODY CHAINSAW GIRL".
Bad Movie but with Funny
It is a bad movie with bad FX but the story quite silly and funny. If some one with bigger budget this movie should be much better.
