forgettable entry

This opens with the infamous murders at the iconic address. It's 40 years later and a new family is moving in. Single mom Joan (Jennifer Jason Leigh) has three children; frustrated Belle (Bella Thorne),youngest Juliet (Mckenna Grace),and comatose James (Cameron Monaghan).

Like James, this franchise is on life support. Anybody hoping for a resurgence may need to do a deal with the devil. There is nothing overtly wrong with this movie other than the fact that nothing original happens. There are jump scares but none of them are inventive or scary. There is only one moment that I found compelling. I love James talking through the computer and asking Belle to kill him. It's one of the few character connections in the movie. None of the new friends are memorable. The mother could have done more. This is a forgettable entry in a dead franchise.

Terrible Story and Poorly Written Screenplay

The seventeen year-old Belle Walker (Bella Thorne) moves to Long Island with her mother Joan (Jennifer Jason Leigh),her little sister Juliet (Mckenna Grace),her comatose twin brother James (Cameron Monaghan) and her aunt Candice (Jennifer Morrison). James suffered an accident and depends on the life support equipment to survive. His neurologist Dr. Milton (Kurtwood Smith) knows that the braindead James will not recover but Joan does not accept the truth and has high-hopes that her beloved son will recover. When Belle goes to school, she learns that her address is the notorious Amityville house where a father killed his family forty years ago. Belle discovers blood stains under the wallpaper of her room and soon mysterious things happen in the house. When James recovers after a flat line, Belle believes an evil thing has possessed he brother.

"Amityville: The Awakening" is another Amityville horror film with terrible story and poorly written screenplay. The characters are not well developed and the conclusion is deceptive. My vote is five.

Kill Them All

Single White Mom (Jennifer Jason Leigh) moves her family into the Amityville murder house with a son (Cameron Monaghan) in a vegetative state. His bed is placed over "the" spot above the basement. With "awakening" being in the title, you should petty well have the film figured out in the first five minutes.

Knowing where the film goes, it takes a long time to get there. The horror build up was slow and the best scenes were dreams. The rave reviews is in part based on the fan following of former child actress Bella Thorne. Better than most films with "Amityville" in the title.

Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity.
