Danny Lee not only stars in another obligatory role as a Hong Kong police officer, but also serves as the films producer with his company Magnum Films behind this 1990 production. Starring alongside him, and taking the lead role, is a young and handsome Nick Cheung as a race-car driver (and artist) caught up in a love triangle with a singer, Cherry (Jacqueline Ng) and her gangster boyfriend.

Although written by the hilarious Lee Lik Chi, often seen in many Chow Sing Chi and Jeff Lau comedies, this Andrew Lau directed thriller is rarely comedic and often quite dark. It oozes early 90's Hong Kong cinema, with a host of familiar faces, grittiness, and triad gang drama that is the main backbone of the film overall...

Cue plenty of slow-motion violence, stuntwork and brutal action, choreographed by the great Stephen Tung Wei..!

Nick lives with his uncle, Danny Lee, who he adores and tries hard to never let down. He isn't a bad kid - neither are his gang of friends - but his love comes at a price, and that price is the heavy hand of triad violence that affects those closest to him. This in turn, leads to the death of his uncle which brings everything to a turning point!

Its worth noting that Danny Lee's death is quite possibly one of the most violent and brutal on-screen deaths in any Hong Kong film - his feet bound in chains before being dragged along the streets at top speed by a motorbike, hammering down stone steps and smashing through bricks. This, of course, sends an enraged Nick Cheung after the bad guys which results in a dark and violent finale in true HK movie style.

Against All is probably a small fish in a big pond of 90's triad drama's, with many others gaining a bigger name for themselves with Western audiences and possibly being forgotten along the way. But this coming-of-age story still carries something a little fresh as well as top performances from its cast, making it highly watchable and very entertaining...

Overall: A fantastic show that deserves a viewing, and is one of the 90's better Hong Kong teen-triad flicks!
