Disney have done two sequels to their original '101 Dalmatians'. The first was '102 Dalmatians' with Glenn Close, and this was the second. Both tell completely different stories, so it's hard to not to play compare/contrast.
I like both for different reasons. This one is good (a better than average Disney straight to video/DVD sequel) because it picks up after the original and has nearly all the same characters in. Cruella however is more of a side character.
'102 Dalmatians' was live action and built mainly around Glenn Close in the role of Cruella, allowing her to create havoc. It's patchy at best.
Neither film are great, but this one slightly edges it for me.

Plot summary
Roger, Anita and their canine clan are packing for the big move to Dalmatian Plantation, a home in the country with plenty of room for the 101 pups and far from the clutches of Cruella DeVil. The feistiest pup, Patch, feels lost in a sea of spots and longs to be a one-of-a-kind wonderdog like his TV hero, Thunderbolt. While watching the Thunderbolt Adventure Hour, Patch hears about a chance to appear on the show while it's filming in London. However, the family move will interfere with Patch's opportunity - until he's accidentally left behind in the commotion. Patch heads for the audition to meet his hero. Meanwhile, Thunderbolt's "trusty" sidekick, Lightning, reveals that the producers of the show want to replace Thunderbolt with a younger dog. In order to save his job, Thunderbolt decides he will go into the real world and perform an act of true heroism to prove himself. A veritable reference book to Thunderbolt's many adventures, Patch provides the perfect guide for the TV star in his attempts at real-life heroics. As for Cruella DeVil - she's back and more obsessed with Dalmatians than ever. At first, she's able to calm her frenzy through an affiliation with a spot-fixated artist.

101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure
A Rerun
The sequel to the 1961 classic "One Hundred and One Dalmatians" comes forty-one years later. It's not quite as long as the hiatus for the "Mary Poppins" sequel, "Mary Poppins Returns" which was fifty-four years later, but it was still a long break. The question is: why did Disney wait forty-one years to release such a paltry product? "101 Dalmatians: Patch's London Adventure" was made in 2002 with the look and quality of 1962. I think the movie would've fared a lot better with a modern face lift; well, that and a plot that was markedly different than the first movie. "101 Dalmatians 2" was essentially a rerun of its predecessor with some small changes. That's never a good recipe for success.
I find this movie very interesting!
I think "101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure" is a very, very impressive sequel to the original. My favourite character is Patch, because that's who this movie is about. It's about him finally getting the chance to meet his TV idol, Thunderbolt, for the first time, and also him becoming Thunderbolt's sidekick. Finally, he does become a one-of-a-kind wonder dog after rescuing his 98 brothers and sisters from Cruella De Vil and her henchmen. They also have to deal with another villain as well, Lil' Lightning, who is Thunderbolt's on-screen sidekick. It's a real good film and I really enjoyed watching it.
NOTE: I'm planning to make 101 Dalmatians III in order to turn this animated genre of 101 Dalmatians into a trilogy. At the moment, I had just subtitled it "Tornado's Revenge", which means that I'm creating a new main villain to replace Cruella for the whole film.
