Comedy/horror plus gore

A camp councilor, Sam (Fran Kranz) finds himself fleeing from a masked killer before the camp season even opens. He realizes that he is covered in blood and his fellow counselors are scattered about camp mutilated. Either he was a close witness to the killings...or the killer, himself! He manages to call his horror enthusiast friend Chuck (Alyson Harrington) , for advise to get out of this mind bending situation. The silliness can be forgotten with the help of some exceptionally grizzly kill sequences.

Also in the cast are Jenna Harvey, Patrick R. Walker, Sara Catherine Bellamy, Bryan Price and Brittany S. Hall.

Nifty meta horror romp

Camp counselor Sam (a fine and likeable performance by Frank Kranz) finds himself on the run from a crazed masked killer. Sam calls his horror fan best friend Chuck (an excellent and appealing portrayal by Alyson Hannigan) for help. Chuck comes up with the wild idea that Sam might be the killer.

Writer/director Brent Simmons relates the familiar, but still enjoyable story at a quick pace, maintains an engaging tongue-in-cheek tone, pokes merry affectionate fun at trashy 80's slasher fare, and delivers a handy helping of bloody gore along with some knowing nods to various horror films of the past.

The spirited acting from the game cast keeps this movie humming: Jenna Harvey as the sweet and virginal Jamie, Brittany S. Hall as the sassy Imani, Patrick R. Walker as the rough'n'tumble Brad, and Catt Bellamy as the foxy Drew. Nice surprise vocal last reel cameo by Keith David, too. A super fun fright flick.

Without a paddle

Within the first thirty seconds, you realize this is an homage spoof of slasher films. There is also an obscure reference to "Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice" for no reason other than to see if there is anyone left who remembers that film. There is zero character buildup before the first kill, in fact, the film starts with a bunch of camp counselors being dead which is never a bad thing. As it turns out, it is a Groot looking mask that is the real culprit. The comedy in the film comes from Chuck (Alyson Hannigan) perhaps a Chucky reference. She works at a pop culture nostalgia comic book store and advises Sam aka Cabin in the Woods Fran Kranz, by phone. She made the film.

Guide: No swearing sex or nudity...okay not the most accurate homage film
