Plot summary
Jim Rayborn has for years been doing most of the work of his grim father Clay's farm, yet couldn't convince the patriarch to switch from cattle to sheep because the warmer climate favors shorter grasses. For Jim's mother's funeral, his sister Lisa returns from New York. Jim expects she'll leave again soon, but learns later her alleged fashion career was a lie. She forces Clay to allow adopting a sheepdog, which Jim considered too expensive: young Lucky, who was dumped at the pond which nature-devoted ma used to help run with veterinarian Don, who soon becomes more then friends with her. Lucky proves talented as the siblings train her, until storm causing a forest fire makes her a canine but temporarily disabled hero. Truth time approaches for everyone.

Great watch
Loved it
I really loved this movie. It's a great family movie.
Trust me, I watched it about a dozen times before I returned it to the library.
Neil turns a border collie in to the animal shelter because the dog had no herder instincts, (note Neil yelled at the dog to try tp get it to obey him). The dog is then adopted by Lisa who needs a herder, and decides to take a chance on the dog she named Lucky. Safe in the assurance of Lisa's love for her, Lucky proves to be a natural born herder. When the local Vet and some children are in danger from a forest fire, the sheriff calls Lisa and her brother Jim (as the closest farm to the fire) to see if they can find the Vet and the kids while he tried to free up a rescue team to send in. Lisa gets the kids jackets out of the Vets SUV and lets Lucky smell them. She sends Lucky into the fire with the order "Lucky, herd" Lucky makes 3 trips into the fire to rescue the 6 people lost in the fire, even though she was burned herself.
It is a great feel good movie.
My advice - watch it with a box of kleenex.
Heartwarming Family Entertainment
This very entertaining and heartwarming Canadian television film, produced in 2009 and airing here as Family Gathering on the Hallmark Channel is a must see for the whole family. Top Billed Natasha Henstridge (giving her usual exceptional performance) plays Lisa Rayborn who returns home for mother's funeral, having spent the last 20 years in New York. She decides to stay in he country and help with the family farm, along the way adopting an unwanted dog which her father Clay takes an instant disliking to. Her brother Jim on the other hand is delighted to have a natural sheep herder in the family. Good music, great scenery and a fine cast including Harry Hamlin, Lawrence Dane and Anthony Lemke as Lisa's love interest make it all the more enjoyable.
