Boring horror thriller

If you have some familiarity with made for television movies from the 1970s, you will probably see that this movie got inspiration from the 1974 made for television thriller "Bad Ronald". To their credit, the makers of the newer movie did manage to change a lot of things so that their movie couldn't be labelled a blatant rip-off. But during the course of their changes, they almost completely stripped away anything that could make this movie good. I don't really want to list any spoilers, but I will say that there are a significant number of plot holes that someone during the production should have spotted and have patched up before filming started. (For example: How did the antagonist get food when there were periods where no one was living in the house?) But what really sinks the movie is how boring and uneventful most of it is. After setting up the situation in the first few minutes, the next hour or so has practically nothing happen that advances the plot - it's just one mysterious incident after another, none of which is particularly scary or creepy. Things do start to happen in the last twenty minutes, but it isn't enough to save things. If you want to see a superior movie that was inspired by "Bad Ronald", look for the Gary Busey movie "Hider in the House" instead.

"You know how every neighborhood has that one creepy house?"

Uh-oh, it's two movies in a row for me without a happy ending (the other was 2017's "The Wall"). What boggles my mind is how the cops supposedly apprehended the perp in the attic and had him sent off to the hospital without checking his identity. That was really a bit of lazy writing the audience had to fall for. I also couldn't figure how the intruder David (Dorian Kingi) managed to dispose of the creepy neighbor Ray Walsh (Ronnie Gene Blevins); you don't hammer a guy in the head without creating a little blood. Or maybe not, but still, where did he put the corpse? I know one thing for sure, if the covers on my bed were slipped off in the middle of the night it would sure as heck wake me up. Seems to me David could have remained an agoraphobic homebody by keeping a low profile and just coming out at night to grab some food for a long term stay without killing every family who bought the house. No thinking long term there. Best line in the film came from Dad (Michael Vartan) when he and wife Melanie (Nadine Velazquez) were leaving for the evening party. To daughter Hannah (Erin Moriarty) he said, "No Tommy". How could he have known?

Forever Together

A family moves into a house that we later discover was a murder house and appears to have some poltergeist activity, which is not unusual since JoBeth Williams is their neighbor. The attention centers around Hannah (Erin Moriarty),the teen daughter who appears to be protected by the entity and also one that removes her covers while she sleeps. Dad (Michael Vartan) is described as "kind of an a-hole." Mom (Nadine Velazquez) had a poorly written character and could have added to the film. There is also the creepy neighbor locksmith (Ronnie Gene Blevins). The previous owners left all their possessions in the garage.

The original title was too much of a plot spoiler. This type of film has been done before, some better, some worse. This is a me-too film that fails to distinguish itself.

Guide: 1 F-word. Brief near sex scene. No nudity.
