This documentary was well-paced and had some interesting behind-the-scenes looks at how the NYCFC franchise was born. I think the highlighting of Villa's signing and Coach Kreis's tough decision-making on the roster were important.
If you are not a soccer fan, this may be a tough watch. As a season-ticket holder, it was more personal and emotional for me. Seeing the expansion draft and how negotiations took place for players was a nice look.
I felt this film highlighted Kreis's challenges as the first-year coach. He was truly into the job, but believed he wasn't given enough true autonomy.
Plot summary
The all-access story of the inaugural 2015 season of New York City Football Club, aka NYCFC. Even with the backing of the New York Yankees and British soccer powerhouse Manchester City, winning over the hearts of New Yorkers will be an uphill battle. The first step is to sign three of the most legendary international players of all time: David Villa, Frank Lampard, and Andrea Pirlo.
