A perfectly enjoyable hunk of 80's Italian post-nuke sci-fi/action junk

2019: The world has gone straight down the toilet and degenerated into savagery following a devastating nuclear holocaust. A despicable band of dastardly gay murderous marauders called the Templars who ride around on dirt bikes and drive in souped-up dune buggies terrorize the desolate countryside, blithely killing all unfortunate folks who cross their lethal path. The Templars are led by the truly nasty One (deliciously played to the raving wacko hilt by the ever-redoubtable George Eastman),a deranged hulk who's on a self-appointed mission to destroy any hope for a better tomorrow. It's up to rugged survivalist supreme Scorpion (a solid performance by the late, great Timothy Brent) and cheery ace archer Nadir (the always cool Fred Williamson) to eradicate these heinous nihilistic scum off the face of the earth.

Director Enzo G. ("The Last Shark," "1990: The Bronx Warriors") Castellari keeps the snappy pace hurtling along at a breathless breakneck tempo and stages the copious exciting action sequences with his usual incendiary aplomb (said action includes plenty of pitched laser gun battles and thrilling car chases which are often done in strenuous slow motion). Fausto Zuccoli's slick, gleaming cinematography gives the movie a nice attractive look. Claudio Simonetti's ripping rock score cuts a righteously funky get-down groove. The hilariously overwrought homophobic angle reaches its jaw-dropping tasteless peak when Scorpion gets caught by the Templars and One viciously sodomizes him(!). The gorgeous Anna ("2019: After the Fall of New York") Kanakis pops up as a feisty young lady Scorpian saves from the Templars' vile clutches. Overall, this entertainingly idiotic trash sizes up as a good deal of engagingly dumb fun.

"Turn off that video game...I'm trying to get some sleep!"

The summary above is quite appropriate--even though it's what my wife said to me late one night as I sat watching this film. This is because "Warriors of the Wasteland" featured a pulsating and VERY repetitive musical soundtrack and the same fake laser sound again and again and again--like some sort of 1980s video game--which my wife assumed I was playing because of the cheap sound effects.

"Wariors of the Wasteland" is a cheap knockoff of "Warlords of the 21st Century"--which is a cheap knockoff of "The Road Warrior". This is NOT an impressive pedigree! However, instead of being made in New Zealand (like "Warlords"),it's made in Italy. The film is set in the dystopic future where society has disintegrated and people are living in the desert--killing each other and driving around in crappy looking cars and motorcycles. The film is practically plot less--consisting of baddies with horrid punk rock snarling, shooting their crappy lasers and terrorizing the dozen or so extras you see during the course of the film.

If you like badly acted and plot less films with lots of action, then you are in for a treat. However, if you aren't and actually demand quality from a film, then keep looking. Pretty crappy.

THE TRASH OF MANKIND

After the big bombs destroy most of the planet, a group of people driving "Death Race 2000" type automobiles go around with the goal of exterminating all of mankind. Actually all you have to do is kill all the women, but that would make a less fun film. They call themselves "Templars." Scorpion, who drives the Batmobile has broken away to become a renegade and eventually teams up with Fred Williamson, so this wouldn't be an all white film.

Acting was bad. The heat guns were funny. What was the power source for the cars? The body double for the kid driving the car was about three times his size. The film was another poor transfer.

Parental Guide: No f-bombs. Some nudity/sex behind a green filter screen.
