There's some great shots, good actors, good production values all-round. Even the script is pretty good for about the first half. Then Eckhart sort of spirals, becoming less believable and the script takes a turn into full con conspiracy theory stuff that makes less and less sense. While they try to make this interesting with him being mentally ill, it doesn't feel well done enough to be anything other than something that could have been fun, but stumbles repeatedly.

Plot summary
Arthur Bretnik is a mentally unstable conspiracy theorist and private eye with a traumatic past. After being hired to investigate a possible murder cover up in the small town of Wander, Arthur is plunged into a world of lies and deceit, as he quickly suspects the murder may be part of the same 'conspiracy cover up' that caused the death of his daughter. Increasingly paranoid, Arthur's sanity is tested as he attempts to filter fact from fiction and solve the case, all the while questioning if he is a pawn in a much bigger game.

Interesting at first but goes off the rails
Overcooked
A surprisingly low budget thriller given the calibre of the cast involved; the lack of money is evident in the lack of expertise, with sledgehammering scenes and spoon-feeding for the audience throughout, when a degree of subtlety would have gone a lot further. Aaron Eckhart is all right as the protagonist but has a tendency to overplay his part somewhat, while the likes of Kathryn Winnick and Tommy Lee Jones don't have a great deal to work with. The ending is as obvious as they come.
Every conspiracy needs a patsy
Arthur Bretnik (Aaron Eckhart) is into conspiracy theories. He is paranoid and has a touch of PTSD after a car accident killed his daughter and made his wife a vegetable. He operates a remote broadcast from his desert trailer aide by his friend Jimmy (Tommy Lee Jones). He is friends with Shelly (Heather Graham) an insurance agent who throws some investigative business his way. A caller to his radio broadcast wants him to investigate a murder. Arthur takes off to the town of Wander with its strange inhabitants.
The film had a lot of stars but as a conspiracy film it leaves a lot on the table. It was not well done. Arthur's paranoia and flashbacks became more annoying than entertaining.
Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity.
