Victor Crowley ... lives

Not that we'd expect something different. But yeah if you have been watching the other movies (that's Hatchet 1-3) you should know that it did seem like the Crowley Saga was over. But low and behold, we get another one. And Adam Green is coming back to take the reigns and continue the legacy he created. It's also almost a miracle he kept the making of this movie a secret. So while almost everyone was expecting to see the original Hatchet movie at a Festival I was attending, surprise surprise ... it's Hatchet 4.

And if you liked the first Hatchet and the second one, you can see the similarities. The humor is back and what some may call bad acting, is deliberate and over the top. That doesn't mean you have to like it ... just be aware of it and don't confuse it. If silly floats your boat (no pun intended),you can give this a try

Race to the bottom

VICTOR CROWLEY is the needless and belated fourth film following on years later from the original trilogy. As for those films, I did enjoy the first as a proper '80s throwback, but the sequels didn't impress me too much. This one continues that trend, and is the worst yet. The sloppy and low-budget storyline sees a bunch of plane crash survivors getting taken apart in excessively gory ways by Crowley, once more played by Kane Hodder as a muscular zombie thing. The opening sequence, which manages to be ridiculously gory and full of gross-out humour to boot, reveals which way this headed and it's a quick journey to the bottom of the barrel. Good quality FX don't help with a lowbrow script and lame story, so this one deserves a miss.

A hatchet job

Victor Crowley is a very grisly and low budget comedy horror.

Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder) is the bayou butcher who hacked up a bunch of tourists in Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp in 2007.

10 years later lone survivor Andrew Yong (Parry Shen) is on the talk show circuit claiming that the mythical Victor Crowley was responsible for the murders. It is his main source of income and over the years he has embellished the story. Many people think that Yong is the actual killer.

Now Yong has been offered a lot of money to revisit the swamp. There is also a crew who want to make a feature film about Victor Crowley. Yet Crowley has been raised from the dead and Yong's chartered plane crashes in the swamp.

Everyone meets up in the plane which include a talk show host and Yong's agent as people are being slaughtered one by one.

Director Adam Green must had visited a lot of cult horror film conventions as Yong lives out some of the bizarre aspects in his book signings. Asked to autograph a bare breasted lady but when Yong refused to sign a man's private parts, he is accused of being homophobic.

There is gore, blood and even a few laughs. It is all very cheap, takes a while to get going and has shallow characters. At time it feels like a tribute to Troma films.
