Vince Vaughn has a long history of playing the lovable loser, and quite frankly he does it well. He's non-threatening, not charismatic enough to be overbearing and has his moments. Here he plays the same character doing the best by his friends and family and (Insert generic Hollywood plot here) By that you may think I didn't enjoy Unfinished Business and that wouldn't be accurate. The problem with Unfinished Business is that its so very very extra-ordinarily cookie cutter. Namely you will know exactly whats coming next and will bring nothing to the table that you haven't seen before......and done better.
Unfinished Business is harmless, Tom Wilkinson is great as always and equally so Dave Franco plays his usual heartbreakingly annoying role.
There are laughs to be had including solid out loud ones for me but the whole thing feels very played out and luck luster.
This is fine as a crash out with the other half when there is nothing better on the box-esque movie, but to go out of your way and watch it? You can do a great deal better.

Unfinished Business: Cookie Cutter Comedy
not funny
Dan Trunkman (Vince Vaughn) refuses to take a 5% pay cut from his boss Chuck Portnoy (Sienna Miller). He starts his own company to compete against them. In the parking lot, he meets Timothy McWinters (Tom Wilkinson) and Mike Pancake (Dave Franco). McWinters has been forced to retire due to age. Pancake failed in his job interview. A year later, the threesome is still struggling. They expect to close a big deal in Portland. Dan's chubby loner son is being bullied and he needs money for private school. He is shocked to find that Jim Spinch (James Marsden) has brought Chuck in to also pitch for the deal. Jim has a relationship with her. Bill Whilmsley (Nick Frost) works for Jim.
This is not funny. Vaughn is too angry to be funny. Franco's idiot character is too annoying. Wilkinson is one of the greatest actors around but he's not funny in this. The movie needs to explain what their business is actually. It's a lot of meaningless talk. All of it adds up to nothing funny and rather boring.
As a comedy it never started
When Vince Vaughn is ripped away from his usual comedy sidekicks, expect a lame turkey.
Vaughn on his own cannot do comedy where he essentially is the straight man. This gross out comedy is an epic fail
Dan Trunkman (Vince Vaughn) is a sales guy who refuses to take a pay cut and leaves to start his own company.
He has with him an over the hill Timothy McWinters (Tom Wilkinson) and dimwit Mike Pancake (Dave Franco.)
A year on, the company is struggling and Trunkman takes the three of them to Berlin to pitch for a make or break deal and beat his former company to the deal.
By setting most of the film in Berlin we have a fish out of water comedy that takes in Berlin's landmarks and its sleazy club culture.
The trouble is this film is just so unfunny. It can be crude one minute and then the next minute Trunkman is on Skype dealing with his domestic life such as his overweight son being bullied.
It is so erratic like it had so many hands in the script that by the end. There was no comedy left.
