The laziest kind of alleged comedy from this time, when bored teenagers would laugh any time someone cursed because they thought it was "daring" and "edgy."

Carvey and Lovitz spend their time thinking a goofy laugh is somehow a substitute for actually being funny. Not a single joke from them the entire time.

Cage simply looks constipated when he's supposed to be exasperated.

The script writer should be slapped by anyone who sat through it.

Bombed when it came out, critically panned. The ones rating it highly must be high on something themselves.

One of the worst films ever made and a career low for all involved.

This was a surprisingly funny movie. Having Cage, Lovitz and Carvey in the same movie is hilarious. Carvey has to have the best role as a kleptomaniac. Watching the movie just to see Dana in this role is worth it all by itself. If you liked City Slickers, you would probably like Trapped in Paradise. 8 Stars.

With a cast that includes Nicholas Cage, Jon Lovitz and Dana Carvey, I really expected "Trapped in Paradise" to be funny. Unfortunately, some very broad writing and a truly loathesome character played by Carvey make this a hard film to like.

The film is about three very unlikely brothers who visit the small town of Paradise, Pennsylvania (a real town...though the film was made in Canada). There, they find a bank that appears to be a very easy mark....and the 'level headed and law-abiding brother' (Cage) suddenly agrees to rob the bank with his two brain-addled brothers. Why? I have no idea whatsoever. What follows is a tough to believe scenario where the three commit the robbery yet cannot get out of town because of inclement weather.

When the film started, I knew I was in for a rough ride. The scene with the two idiot brothers (Lovitz and Carvey) at their parole hearing really was badly handled. To demonstrate that Carvey plays a compulsive thief, he steals during the parole hearing...and talks like he has a SERIOUS head injury. Funny? Nope. But this sort of broad overacting and poor writing continues throughout the film....and making the film without his character at all would have been a big improvement.

As for Lovitz and Cage, they somehow managed to have characters who were less like caricatures...but they, too, were poorly written but seemed great compared to Carvey's! As for the people playing the residents of Paradise, they, too are pretty dim-witted. In fact EVERYONE in the film is dim-witted.

If you want to see a similar story that was competently made and competently written, try "Quick Change". It's not exactly a work of art but it actually has a few laughs and is worth seeing...unlike "Trapped in Paradise".
