We find here some really incompetent 1-3 star reviews. I understand why some rated it low; it's a slow burner that didn't meet sci fi expectations or fill anyone's adrenaline addiction. But this film deserves far greater recognition. If this had been a dramatization of a real event, it might have been regarded as an exceptional film. They could have dropped the science fiction wrapping and made this simply a film about humanity and relationships; it would have served far better and perhaps been more highly regarded.
But in this case the sci fi is merely a sub-plot within a greater story. The trappings were about plant growth, but in truth the overall film is about personal growth.
If anything, the science fiction element detracts a bit from this, which is why I give it 8 stars instead of 10. But that 8 stars is for directing, cinematography, music and some of the best acting we've seen in quite some time. Clayne Crawford does an exceptional job in the main role. The supporting actors do very well. That's the real winner in this: the characters are believable. The sci fi is just sort of thrown in.
Overall the story being told is good-- a far distance from "one of the worst movies ever made". Those who rated this 7 to 10 stars have good reason for doing so.
If one is into spaceships, aliens, huge planetary explosions, laser battles, space babes or disaster flicks... this isn't the film for you. But if one goes into this looking for good acting, sensible story telling and unique characters, while the plot is a little unexpected... this is a gem of a film.

A really good film
No substance.
There was no character depth, the storyline was in-cohesive, and the acting almost nonexistent. Independent movies can be hit or miss and this felt like a miss. The storyline jumped all over the place making it hard to maintain interest and piece it together. The acting was basically a non point because no scene lasted more than a minute and the dialogue was sparse.
Boring scifi that lacks explanation!
This is only for those who love science and fiction so much, and are bored in their real life. Meaning, watch it only if you really have nothing else to do. I can say for sure that everybody who rates this with 10 is not appropriate, and has never seen any better movie. This one is neither best neither worst, but is closest to worst. It is filled with boredom almost 100% of time, only those few moments make it less boring and gives it star or two. It's about real life, depressive people, suicide tendencies, abusive people, parents, growing up, dying of diseases, useless talking, hoping... It is too much ordinary, while excitement is only 1% of this movie. Also if you are sensitive to people's negativity, my advice is to not watch this. There are definitely abusive scenes that are unfortunately reality of our lives today. The fiction or fantasy part is shown without explanation, cause, reason. Also we can feel that this is USA and not Canadian movie based on places and talk.
