Gad and Hart funny by sheer will

Doug Harris (Josh Gad) has a bride in Gretchen Palmer (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting) but no best man. He's awkward and has no friends. In ten days, he has to find a best man and seven groomsmen. The wedding coordinator Edmundo recommends Jimmy Callahan (Kevin Hart) who specializes in playing the best friend role.

This starts at a similar place as 'I Love You, Man' but it goes off on a different and dumber route. Gad and Hart are lovable comedians. By their sheer will of personalities, they get a few laughs. I really like their chemistry together but they need a movie with a better premise. There are too many groomsmen anyways. It's not logical that a couple of them couldn't cancel for whatever reason. They step on each other's jokes and become a rambling mess of one joke characters. Kaley Cuoco is misused and probably would be great for Olivia Thirlby's role. Instead she's the bigger star and gets the bigger role. The bride should be a stuck up superficial girl and Nicky Whelan could play that. Olivia Thirlby could be a sweet girl that Doug ends up with. This movie has moments of fun but the general overall story doesn't work.

Cut and carried

In The Wedding Ringer Jason Gad plays chubby, nerdy Doug Harris, a successful tax attorney about to marry a woman who he thinks is out of his league, pretty blonde Gretchen.

While Gretchen and her family are pouring over every detail of the wedding with their campy wedding planner, Doug realises he is in trouble. He does not have a best man, no groomsmen and his attempts to ring old acquaintances has proved to be fruitless.

With the wedding less than ten days away, the wedding planner sends him to see Jimmy Callahan (Kevin Hart). He is the best man for hire. He can plan your bachelor party, be your best friend, deliver a cracking toast and after he is paid, he leaves.

For Doug he has to deliver the impossible, the Golden Tux package and get seven groomsmen together as well as attending to the wedding preparations.

The film is mildly amusing although predictable. Hart and Gad have a good chemistry, a bromance as you can see in the dance sequence in that wedding they attend to observe a terrible best man speech. It becomes clear as the film goes along that Doug's bride to be is a little shallow and may not be totally in love with him. The seven groomsmen look like a bunch of misfits and no way would Doug be friends with any of them.

However Doug is a nice, caring guy. With his brief time with Jimmy he realises that he wants more in his relationship and wants the right woman.

The film ends with a plane ride and a killer line from the fat guy from Lost!

PAC-MAN IS MY FAVORITE SUPER HERO

Doug Harris (Josh Gad) has a good job and is marrying a woman (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting) way out of his league. Unfortunately Doug doesn't have any male friends close enough to be best man or grooms men. He lies about this to his future wife which forces him to hire them through Best Man Inc. employing the services of quick thinking golden tongue Kevin Hart. Hart hires a group of seven misfits to fill in. Doug and Hart bond during this time, while the film pays little attention to Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, in what seems to be a bad role for her.

I couldn't help think that the role of Doug Harris would have been better played by a younger Jonah Hill. Kevin Hart was hit and miss during the film with the low point being the dog/peanut butter scene which was juvenile stupid. What were the writers? 14 years old? A good film for those that like dumb sex comedies that pretend to be meaningful.

Guide: F-bomb. Sex talk. Brief topless flash (What was that? 1 frame?) Crass Dog/peanut scene
