I'm 23 years old but I'm still fan of animation movies. This movie was mostly for kids not for adults but I still liked it.

backdoor pilot

Plankton finally realizes that SpongeBob is the one coming between him and the secret formula. Meanwhile, King Poseidon has used up all the sea snails to moisturize his skin and is searching for more. Plankton sees an opportunity to steal Gary and get back at SpongeBob.

This SpongeBob movie also serves as a backdoor pilot to the spin-off series 'Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years'. I'm not a big fan of that premise of marrying SpongeBob Babies with CGI surfaced characters which gives it a vibe of late 90's TV cartoons. It's also a bit jarring to the point of noticeable. For the real people in the movie, I like Keanu Reeves because he's obviously playing off his own persona. It's slightly funny but not outright hilarious. I'm less amorous with the others like Snoop Dogg even if I don't mind their songs or performances. As for the main SpongeBob story, I don't care about injecting new character Otto. I like the gang setting off to save Gary. It has some fun Scooby road trip possibilities. There are a couple of head-scratchers with the ending. SpongeBob and Gary should left behind to face Poseidon by themselves. It's fine for SpongeBob to sacrifice himself for Gary. It's quite another thing for SpongeBob to sacrifice everybody else as well. It's also weird that all the snails suddenly are released from the dungeon. I thought the premise is that Poseidon had used up all the snails. Does this mean that the snails are simply dried up and needed some rest to moisten up again? It doesn't really add up but ok! Finally, it's a bit of a bummer to be reminded of Stephen Hillenburg's passing. All in all, this is a little fun with some issues and I'm not sold on the backdoor pilot.

Hello, I like money.

I'm a huge fan of 'SpongeBob SquarePants (1999-)'; I absolutely love the first three seasons of the show and the first movie. That's why it's so hard for me to say that 'The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On The Run (2020)', well, sucks. The movie has maybe one proper laugh in it, with only a few half-chuckles along the way, and its plot feels like a rehash of past narratives that's padded with unnecessary scenes - such as an absolutely pointless, painfully extended stint in live-action land that seems to only have been included so that the director could smoke weed with Snoop Dogg - and often stops dead in its tracks to cram in some continuity-crunching advertisements for the upcoming 'Kamp Koral' spin-off show. It's a huge disappointment, to say the least. Even an extended Keanu Reeves cameo can't elevate the affair - though his appearances are certainly some of the flick's highlights. There are some visually distinct sequences (its 3D animation is generally well-achieved) and, as I mentioned, a few half-chuckles here and there, but the feature just isn't all that enjoyable overall. It also lacks any real messaging or narrative satisfaction. Ultimately, it's a shadow of its former self. The difference in quality between this and the first flick is almost inconceivable. 4/10
