FINALLY! SHARKS BEHAVING LIKE REAL SHARKS!

It is so refreshing to watch a shark film in which the sharks ACTUALLY behave like sharks.

Not CGI sharks who are on a blood thirsty revenge plot. But sharks who find humans in their environment and in their territory. They don't attack straight off the bat, they watch and survey their pray. It's beautiful to see sharks being sharks for once.

Enjoyable movie :)

A Tense and Realistic Combination of "Open Water" and "Jaws"

Luke (Damian Walshe-Howling) welcomes his friend Matt (Gyton Grantley) and his girlfriend Suzie ( Adrienne Pickering) that come from London and Matt's sister and Luke's former girlfriend Kate (Zoe Naylor) that comes from Sydney to sail with him and the sailor Warren (Kieran Darcy-Smith) in a sailboat. However, the vessel hits an underwater rock and capsizes with an opening on her bottom. Luke advises that they should swim in the north direction to reach the Turtle Island, in Queensland, Australia, while they have strength since there is a current moving the stranded boat in the opposite direction of land but Warren prefers to stay on the hull waiting for help since there are sharks in the water. The quartet swims, but they are hunted by a great white shark.

"The Reef" is a tense and realistic combination of "Open Water" and "Jaws". The performances are top-notch and transmit the sensation of fear to the viewer and the attacks of the white shark are impressively real. My vote is seven.

Aussie greatness

Forget the disappointing OPEN WATER and its sequel, THE REEF turns out to be THE shark movie of recent years. It's a low budget, ultra-realistic account of five backpackers who find themselves trapped in a shark-infested ocean when their yacht capsizes. What follows is by turns thrilling, horrifying and utterly suspenseful, which is mainly thanks to the bravura direction of Andrew Traucki.

Although the various plot elements of this movie are familiar – and let's face it, they have been, ever since the days of JAWS – it's the tight focus of the script which makes it work. Traucki, who also wrote the film, really draws you into the terrible situation and the difficult decisions faced by his cast members so that you're there experiencing everything that happens to them.

The cast give sympathetic turns for the most part, with Damian Walshe-Howling particularly impressive as the survivalist hero, and if the female characters scream and do stupid things a little too often, then it's pretty much par for the course for the genre. The ending is a bitter disappointment, but what comes before it is pretty much as good as it gets for this genre, which is enough reason for me to check out the director's other works
