If you weren't aware of the context, this would still be your typical 'time filler' documentary but possibly believable, and mildly entertaining. But the brits have had over 200 years of mystery writing that has crossed over to canada and america, so it's ridiculous to talk about sherlock holmes without mentioning writers like agatha christie who sold more books and stories than doyle. Maybe they'll eventually get to the real sherlock but I had to quit after about 10 mins listening to so-called experts talk about the popularity of holmes. Oh dear, what's next, 'the real columbo', 'the real peroit', ... What someone should do is a documentary about is how such a staid and unemotional culture has produced so many great writers in this particular genre over the past 200 years.
