THE NEIGHBOUR is an engaging little suspense thriller from the director and star of THE COLLECTOR films. They were pretty decent in themselves, but this is even better, as it thankfully shies away from tired old 'torture porn' type set-pieces in favour of slow-building suspense and plot development. Josh Stewart plays a grungy ne'er-do-well hero, living with his girlfriend and making a wage through unorthodox methods, when he becomes involved with the loner living next door. What happens next is entirely predictable but to my surprise I found myself caught up in the web of intrigue and getting involved in the plight of the protagonists. No great shakes then, just a B-movie that delivers on its promise for once.

Bad Neighbor
We always wonder what our neighbors are like. Unless we are good friends with them that is. But even then, do we really know them? Do they like us? Do they have extra curricular activities we are not aware of? Also what can we expect from the filmmaker of the Collection movies? Exactly and if you know those, you do know what you are letting yourself into (no pun intended of course).
So while our main characters may not exactly make their way into heaven for their personality or way of life, there might be a bigger problem right around the corner (or just next to the corner). Obviously if you are watching a horror/thriller movie I don't have to tell you, that things tend to get ugly. Suspense level is there and it keeps you on your toes until the end ... what more can you ask for?
Just don't be stupid.
It takes story-telling talent to keep a viewer entertained and in suspense when the viewer knows what the ending will be. The journey is what was important in this movie. There were no stupid twists. I'm a stickler for hating when characters do stupid things to move the plot along. This did not happen here. Even situations that you felt would lead to that did not happen. This movie was so satisfying, and his girlfriend was bad-ass.
