What an unfunny piece of garbage

I'm not a Rob Zombie fan. House of 1000 corpses took many, many better ideas and threw them in a blender. Devil's Rejects was worse and his Halloween was just crummy. This however, had exactly one funny bit - the opening, a homage to the original and great Frankenstein. The rest is just a mishmash of crappy animation, rude jokes that sounded like rejects from better shows/movies and a meandering story. Sherri Moon's voice is so damn annoying, I watched the last half with the subtitles on and the sound off. I didn't find any of it particularly offensive, just unoriginal, boring and lifeless. Anyone else think El (the title character) was a rip on Charles Burns far funnier El Borbah? I'd simply avoid this since Ralph Bakshi Zombie Ain't!

Can Zombie Sink Lower?

Based upon the comic from Rob Zombie, "The Haunted World of El Superbeasto" is Rob's film in animation, following the adventures of El Super Beasto and his sexy sultry sidekick and sister, Suzi-X (Sheri Moon).

The film starts off almost okay with an introduction that suggests William Castle and his gimmicks... but soon devolves into animated pornography, and followed by a strip club. If you want 80 minutes of animated boobs, this is your kind of movie.

I mean, I guess Hitler's head in a vat is always fun... and the references to "Halloween", "The Shining" and other horror classics might be a treat for some fans... but still, it just never really takes off to higher levels and makes "Fritz the Cat" look like high art.

I kinda liked the songs, though... gotta admit that.

I had expected something more from this...

Never having read the comic book, I wasn't particularly familiar with the concept of El Superbeasto, but I decided to buy the DVD movie from Amazon simply because it was a Rob Zombie production.

I am assuming that this is an acquired taste, whether you will like it or not. I wasn't particularly loving this cartoon. Sure it had its moments, but it was nowhere near Rob Zombie's previous movies.

The story in "The Haunted World of El Superbeasto" came off a rather irrelevant to me. There wasn't any particular greater coherent meaning to it. And that had me dozing off a couple of times along the way.

Now, the cartoon had stuff working out in its favor as well. Especially the impressive list of people on the voice cast. There was really some nice actors/actresses on the list here, and thumbs up for that. What had to be the best moment in the entire feature was when Otis Driftwood (voiced by Bill Moseley) and Captain Spaulding (voiced by Sid Haig) showed up. Even for just that short a moment, it totally made it worthwhile. But also Dr. Satan (voiced by Paul Giamatti) made the story worthwhile to sit through.

The way the cartoon made fun of itself and other cartoons was good.

The Nazi zombies made the movie bearable as well, because, come on, I mean zombie Nazis just make everything much more fun. There is something oddly interesting about that combination. And it was a nice touch with all the iconic movie monsters making cameo appearances throughout the movie.

I doubt that I will be popping this DVD in the player a second time, it just didn't really leave a lasting impression on me, unlike Rob Zombie's previous movies (especially "House of 1000 Corpses" and "The Devil's Rejects").

Oh, and a word of warning, there is a lot of nudity (albeit animated) in this feature, and also lots of violence and somewhat what might be considered improper language by some. So you might not want to watch this if you are particularly sensitive to such things.
