The Harry Hill Movie

TV Burp was on TV for ten years between 2002 and 2012, I was a big fan of it, so I was disappointed when the popular satirical and surreal comedian decided to quit (and after a suggested £2,000,000 pay increase),but I was excited to see him attempt a movie, from director Steve Bendelack (Mr. Bean's Holiday). Basically Harry Hill lives with his Nan (Julie Walters) in a small cottage, and she reveals (again) that he had a twin brother, they were separated as children, Harry stayed with his parents and then lived with her, and his twin Otto (Matt Lucas) was given away to be raised by Alsatians, and then Harry and his Nan are concerned with pet hamster Abu (Johnny Vegas). The Vet, doctor Ed (Simon Bird),tells them that Abu has only days to live, he is almost euthanized, but Harry takes him home and says to Abu that he can do whatever he wants before the time comes, they mishear his actual request and decide to go on a trip to Blackpool for a week. Harry, Nan and Abu are unaware that they are being chased by Ed and his assistant Kisko (Guillaume Delaunay),who are working for the evil twin brother Otto, who still lives with his Alsatian parents stuffed and eats almost nothing but Beef and Onion Hula Hoops, the trio end up mistakenly going to "Blackpole", where the only good attractions are the black pole and a nuclear power plant. After spending the night at the psychedelic B&B run by The Magic Numbers, Harry and Nan have a guided tour of the plant with the Cleaner (Jim Broadbent),while Abu wanders off and is temporarily mutated by radiation into a huge hamster monster with laser eyes and destroying parts of the local area, before shrinking and returning to normal to continue onto Blackpool. While walking on the beach they encounter Barney Cull (Marc Wootton) of the Shell People, he asks their help to save his shell children from being sold in a gift shop, and succeeding they are invited to a Shell People party, and Harry meets and falls for the daughter of King Conch (Julian Barratt),Michelle (Sheridan Smith),but unable to stay living underwater he leaves her. Following a boxing ring match between Harry and Kisko, determining whether he could fairly keep his guinea pig friend, the bad guys almost capture Abu when Nan's car runs out of petrol and Harry and her leave him behind to find a petrol station, but they fail again and the trio finally reach Blackpool. There, while watching a dog Jackson 5 tribute, the Dachshund 5, Harry is reunited with Michelle, to Nan's annoyance, and Abu is finally kidnapped by a fox who has been hired to impersonate him, but Harry and Nan follow a trail of Hula Hoops that lead them to where their furry friend has been taken, Otto's hideout, the evil twin brother plans to turn the hamster into one of his stuffed figurines. Otto wants his revenge and has a pair of killer brains to chase the good guys, they are eventually saved by the Shell People, Harry pursues Otto to the top of Blackpool Tower, but he and the other bad guys are defeated, Abu coughs up a green felt tip, this is what had made him sick after all, Ed helped him swallow it as part of a plan, the film ends happily with Harry and Michelle reunited and a celebration party. Hill does his usual sarcastic comments, gurning and pulling faces, and just being bonkers, Walters does alright as Nan who he has often mentioned in past shows, Lucas is a silly as a pantomime villain, Bird is a bit of a questionable henchman, and Vegas is an amusing enough choice for the voice of Abu the hamster. We expect Hill to be in a film full of wackiness and surreal stuff, it does start relatively well with a mobility scooter race and chickens firing machine guns in a garden, but after that it just gets a bit too weird and wacky that it gets pretty ridiculous, the Shell People storyline is very unexpected and odd to conceive, you almost wish you could be laughing a lot more than you actually do, but at least Hill tried, kids and fans of TV Burp certainly will be entertained by some of it, but overall a disappointing comedy film. Adequate!

Possibly heavy weather for adults, kids will love it

When Harry's hamster Abu is targeted for kidnap by Harry's evil twin brother Otto, Harry and his Nan, believing that Otto has a mere week to live, decide to treat Abu to a week of living high on the hog. In Blackpool. While avoiding Otto's henchmen.

Harry Hill is a British comedy performer, much loved on TV, whose work is characteristically eccentric and surreal, sometimes clever, and almost always child-like and extremely silly. The silliness appeals strongly to children: adults have to be in the mood and, in the context of a half-hour TV programme, adults can often find this mood. This film is 90 minutes of full-on Harry Hill silliness and, for adults, it may well be a bit tough to take - I know that, despite laughing intermittently throughout, I did. I suspect it will work a lot better for kids. Harry breaks the fourth wall throughout (as per his established persona),Julie Walters, as Harry's Nan, is so far over the top she's nearly at the bottom on the other side, and the jokes vary hugely (there is a romance between Harry and a marine princess whose body is completely covered in seashells - her name is "Michelle". This joke may well sum up the entire film).

I suspect that this film will not travel at all well.

Petrol drinking maniac

This movie is an absolute disgrace and I would like it to be banned in all countries seen as there is a Pentiuner drinking petrol. This later inspired my Nan to also do so leading to her death. I loved the content in this movie but it has also destroyed my entire life as my Nan was my only living relative and I am living in a caravan now with nothing but some beef flavoured hula hoops. This is a disgrace, I am eternally scared.
