The about nine year old Benjamin Rothenborg Vibe makes one of the best child actor performances that I can remember from cinema in the highly underrated and sadly basically forgotten Danish film The Great Day At The Beach. Also the main adult contributions are solid. This film is based on Palle Fischer's novel of the same name, and it gives a very fine illustration of family and local streets Copenhagen life in the 1930's. This film has qualities otherwise seen in some if the best Italian films.

Copenhagen 1930. Through the eyes of a boy, his family and the outside world is depicted. A well knit, working class family. The boy has great expectations on his father. This leads to the involuntary unmasking of the father.

The best movie of director/actor Erik Clausen.
If your danish and over 20 years of age, chances are very high you have seen this movie some point in your life. And what a great movie it is. Erik Clausen is perfectly cast as Axel a working class man with a big mouth and VERY bad manors, one of the all time best movies in danish cinema.
