excellent sequel

I don't remember anything about the first Croods movie, but I do recall it was funny. The same is true of this one. It's pretty funny for the first third, extremely funny and clever in the middle third, and pretty funny but exciting in the final third, so all-in-all it's very satisfying.

What the bloody hell was this??!!

It's been a long wait for the sequel, but here it is...Boy, oh boy, what have they done??!!!

If I wanted a silly slapstick cartoon, I'd have watched Looney Tunes. Everything that made the first film so magical, original and memorable is absent from this sequel. This is a typical American trait where they disregard everything that made a film good, and substitute it with slapstick humor only Americans will find funny. I mean, just look at 'Hotel Transylvania 2' and 'Ice Age 2' as well...

This film follows directly on the first film, yet it is much too modern to take place during the Cave Man era. We have people speaking modern dialogue, and a shower, and flushing toilet, and...and... The adventure element is gone. The action is gone. The suspense is gone. This was just silly humor followed by more silly humor followed by slapstick. This is downright a kiddies cartoon for a very young demographic.

The only underlying message here is that one shouldn't watch too much TV. The 'love story' is annoying and reminiscent of a teenage comedy. This is NOT what I wanted to see in this sequel to such a fantastic first film. I literally sat there shaking my head in disbelief at how they messed up everything that was good and enjoyable in 'The Croods'. I mean, we now have wolf spiders, and granny's hair is a flying lizard wig!!!??? WTF!!!??? This was beyond stupid and had no entertainment value (for me) whatsoever. I could hardly watch until the end. I hated this!! Boy, was I happy when this atrocious film was over!

Would I watch it again? Absolutely NOT!

Modern Family meets Croods

The beginning of this is quite slow and may feel a bit boring. It takes a few minutes to say the least for the ball to get rolling. Actually it only takes off when we meet our new characters - new people. And new people have different views. Very different views and lifestyles to be exact. More modern ... so you will not miss the puns and stabs to modern day families or activities (the window being the most obvious one).

Really well done animation wise and also story wise. There may be a supernatural element to this that you may not totally agree with ... but you needed a bigger evil/enemy to make this work - to combine and make everything work out in the end.

It may have been a while since the last Croods movie was released (I have not watched the TV show or whatever else was on the ... tube),but it fits right in. And it has all the big players back to do the voices. Which is quite fun to listen to.
