Okay slow burn sci-fi horror

As this film opens fisherman Tom wakes up on his boat in Block Island Sound; he is somewhat confused and the boat is a mess. His son Harry worries that he has been drinking. When large numbers of dead fish start washing up on the island beaches Tom's daughter Audry, who lives on the mainland and works for the Environmental Protection Agency, is sent to investigate. When she gets there she too thinks her father is behaving strangely... it isn't long before Harry is behaving strangely as well.

This is a decent enough film. On the plus side it doesn't rush to explain things and maintains a nice creepy atmosphere. Setting the story on an island during the off season improves things too; tensions rise when the tourists and their money departs. There are also plenty of creepy sound effects and a nice avoidance of cliché jump scares. On the down side it does overstate some things... in a film like this we know the early rantings of a conspiracy theorist will contain at least a hint of what is behind the danger. I was also a little underwhelmed by later scenes where 'strange things' happen aboard the boat. The acting is solid; especially from the main characters. While I didn't think about it while watching I notice a few people commented that this has an X-Files vibe to it... they are right, it does, in an effective way. Overall I'd say this was a decent enough way to pass the time; if you want gore, a high body count and impressive monsters this won't be for you but if you like gently rising tension and plenty of atmosphere it is worth trying.

a pretty decent mystery drama...

Even though its drenched with mysticism, and very loose clues whats going on, and what might be running around in this particullar cabin feverish island family. what the monster is i shall not spoil, just a tip...take a good look at yourself in the mirror and listen very carefully, you might hear some noises too.

i think this is better than average supernatural stuff movie, they keep the secrets well hidden, and the actors does their caracters very well. what gave me a bitter taste was the everlasting, turning my mental unconsciousness on hyperdrive was the score and the sounds, the production seems flawless to me, good darkfilming and neat choice of locations.

so this could easily have been tv movie buff , with family issues on the line, but it has advanced into something more than that, a sinister dark lurking non horror horror movie with a good angling to wards the mental illnesses among us. so i kept watching and came to the conclusion to recommend thisfilm, it doesnt need to cost to much to make a good movie is the opinion of the grumpy old man

Shining with ecological sound.

Not a bad sci-fi thriller with good acting and directing. Not bad at all, though it brings many elements of déjà vu. And many things of course remain to be explained. That's the name of the game for this kind of films, if not it would not be mystery, would it? You think here about SHINING and BERMUDA TRIANGLE events that occured decades ago and probably still exist. And as a modern tale, you have also an ecological point of viw, related to fish, pollution.... It remains in the background but is still felt for audiences. Good ending.
