I am the God you Deserve

Some PLOT SPOILERS, I tell you what is going on.

This is Russian science fiction. It is long and drawn out like a Russian novel. The earth undergoes a blackout and people are under the control of aliens, except for an area centered around Moscow. Military groups go out and attempt to figure out what is going on. They had to develop a number of characters. There is an alien who claims he is on our side and explains they are here to colonize from a dying solar system. The plot goes Prometheus on us as they claim they were here before and killed off the advanced civilization that was here. (Appears to be some Atlantis thing and they built the pyramids.) They gave us a god Ra to teach us peace which didn't work out.

If you like science fiction with an ancient astronaut theme and are patient enough to watch a movie that moves slowly, but with action, this is it. Does the doctor look like Melania?

not bad but a bit too long

Flick coming out of Russia. Not bad at all, excellent CGI and the action was also okay. Weird story but it do works. You have 2 choices, the Russia version or the dubbed version. I watched the dubbed one.

Maybe 2 hours was a bit too long because some moments are a bit too long. The beginning is okay but I still don't get it after all, and by not explaining one bit it's still strange to watch. Sadly the acting was mediocre. No emotions at all. I didn't had a problem with the aliens faces.

So if you want to see what Russia can do, pick it up, again, CGI is sublime. And it's so awkward to see the whole world in being in the dark except Russian parts.

Not bad at all!

'The Blackout' has a very clear message about humanity's destructive inclinations, and an interesting way of conveying this message.

The film has a very exciting opening scene, and then remains mysterious and atmospheric well after they halfway mark. Once Id (Artyom Tkachenko) arrives, the film shifts significantly. Its not always clear why he decided to betray his kind and offered his assistance to the humans, apart from the fact that he needs a human to find Ra, who controls the People. (Some might consider this blasphemous, referring to the sun god Ra).

Despite being so powerful, Ra is easily overwhelmed by Id and a handful of humans. He is a passive, almost insignificant character. I also found it difficult deciding who the actual protagonist is.

'The Blackout' is not the most fast-paced sci-fi film and might disappoint in that regard. It is, however, very different to most sci-fi films out there and non-stop entertainment. Some action sequences towards the end are incredible. The film also has a fantastic score, great cinematography, and amazing visuals.

Would I watch it again? Probably, yes.
