Greek Tragedy? Or French Farce?

There was a tongue-in-cheek approach to "A Nanny's Revenge" with some sly tricks deployed by the filmmakers. When it is revealed at the beginning that the singular trait of the protagonist Gina Jensen is that she is "impulsive," we know that we are in for a wild ride.

Gina lost both of her parents when her father died on a construction job due to "cheap and faulty" electrical parts purchased from China by the contractor Parker Randall. Gina's mom died in an auto crash on the way to the hospital to visit her dying husband. Randall then tries to cover up his malfeasance by doctoring the toxicology report on Gina's dad, indicating that he was drunk on the job.

It is at this moment that Gina's impulsivity kicks in, leading her to devise a fantastical scenario to infiltrate Randall's home as the nanny to his young son Jackson. A string of outrageous fantasy scenes are dramatized in Gina's mind in which she takes Randall hostage and extracts a confession out of him. But it is unclear exactly what Gina will ultimately do to the scoundrel Randall.

The final fifteen minutes of the film occurs in the Randall home where all of the main characters converge at the climactic moment where Gina confronts Randall. There was good dramatic tension, as well as solid performances from the entire cast.

One of the most intriguing characters was Brynn Randall, the long-suffering wife whose crooked husband had been cheating on her. Impulsivity may have been Gina's dominant character trait. But she also carefully plotted her revenge scheme and shrewdly planned to record the pivotal scene where she confronts Randall. But she is thrown a wicked curve ball when Brynn shows up on the scene.

There was especially strong work on the part of the director to move the action along at a brisk pace, which complements the theme of impulsivity. At the end, it will be up to audience members to decide whether they have just watched a Greek tragedy or a French farce.

She wouldn't do something crazy

This is another "Hand That Rocks the Cradle" type of film. Gina (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe) loses her her parents on the same day and blames Real Estate developer Parker Randall (Michael Woods). She becomes a live-in tutor for his step son (Reed Ramsden) so she can fulfill her dream of killing him.

This is a made for US TV film. It is boring and the story develops very fast and unlikely until we get to the part where Gina is in their household. In the film her surname is Jensen, same as her soon to be ex-husband Mark (Paul Hopkins). On the credits it is Wright and on the IMDB write up it is Meyers. Her parents are named DiSalvo.

Made for TV film where women have a strong lead.

Revenge Was Never So Good-A Nanny's Revenge ***1/2

Wonderful film with a young lady resigning her teaching position due to the fact that she feels that her male co-worker was unjustly fired. Our young lady has recently parted the ways with her husband.

Surprisingly, this is not what the story is about. After the tragic deaths of her parents, the woman sets out to take revenge on the man she felt caused the construction accident leading to her dad's death. While rushing to the hospital, an auto accident occurs taking her mother's life.

She finds out that the construction head has mob links and is quite a womanizer. Thereupon, she takes a position as a nanny to his wife's child.

The ending is all too familiar with the idea that hell hath no fury as a woman scorned; in this case, the boy's mother who has long suspected her husband's philandering. After all, she was once his secretary as well. That's not to say that our Romeo didn't get what he deserved.
