"Buck Yuen" (Jackie Chan) is an employee of a small exercise equipment shop in Hong Kong. One day he happens to see some suspicious people nearby and follows them. When they attempt to rob a jewelry store he springs into action and this gets his picture in the news. Then, as luck would have it, this attracts a private investigator to discern if he is possibly the heir to a client of his who just happens to be involved in drugs and espionage. Now rather than reveal any more of this rather complicated plot I will just say that, as usual with movies involving Jackie Chan, this film had more than its fair share of martial arts action. It also had some pretty good comedy too. Unfortunately, as I stated earlier, the plot was somewhat complex and the movie itself seemed heavily edited which certainly didn't help the overall cohesiveness of the film. Additionally, the sound quality wasn't very good either. In short, although this was an enjoyable movie for the most part it definitely had some flaws and for that reason I rate it as only average.

Jackie Chan returned to Hong Kong to shoot this predictable thriller which really is interchangeable with the last five movies he made in that country (WHO AM I?, FIRST STRIKE, etc.) but nevertheless provides a barrel-load of laughs and action in a braindead, but fun adventure. The plot is the worst thing about the movie, with CIA agents coming and going, femme fatales with mixed motives and an unexpected suicide which sits out-of-tone with the rest of the movie.

Yet Jackie is his usual charismatic self and the action, when it comes, is as you would expect: fast, frenetic and always furious. The highlight of the film has to be the scene in which a starkers Chan is pursued by myriad bad guys all intent on giving him a good hiding; the stunts here have to be seen to be believed. The ending, which rips off SPEED, is also rather good, as our heroes contend with a burning fuel tanker which can't slow down, or it'll explode. It's as funny and exciting as it sounds, and a perfect finale to this kind of movie.

NB. I recently had the pleasure of watching the unWeinsteined version of this movie; namely the Hong Kong DVD, without the 20 minutes cut out and in the original language. It holds up a lot better. The naked chase and the climax are still the best parts, but the story hangs together better. The weak point here are the fights, which are rather limited compared to what Jackie normally delivers, but otherwise this is a fitting swansong for Jackie's career with Golden Harvest.

Jackie Chan goes from a salesman to becoming involved in an opium drug scheme in this nicely paced thriller. The problem is that the plot needed to be developed more. You get confused regarding who is really behind this.

Naturally, in a picture of this nature, there are scenes fully action-packed. Chan's knowledge of fighting sure comes into use here as he is fighting the bad guys almost constantly.

Any attempt at romance is thwarted when it is revealed that the alleged reporter on assignment, is really an addicted person, and she meets a bad end.

The truck scene, where the truck is on fire, is most exciting. It's the last scene that confuses us all. The short guy who Chan meets up with at the bar, earlier in the film, is much more involved than we would ordinarily think.
