I think this is one of my favourite films. The acting is superb, slam-dunk champion Staples shines in his role as Michael Diggs, and Michael Irvin is also pretty good as his former agent. As well as the smart acting there is a powerful script and storyline, i wont say the story because its probably already been said in other reviews, but the characters are believable and original.
The music is another good point for this film, the songs done by the rappers really add to the feel of the film and the title song "Slam" is a brilliant track.
My favourite aspect of this film is the director''s use of the camera, his slow pans around and smooth camera movements with no cuts are really good, this film contains some of the best shots i've seen and are really inspiring.Especially the scene when Chris is in the park hugging his mother's grave.
My main criticism of this film is the ending, the film was believable and real all the way through but the ending was a big letdown, my other criticism is that it is a bit too long and can lose the audiences attention by being a bit boring.
But overall this is a great film by one of Hollywood's best faith-based directors, and this film should have got more praise than it got, especially Chris Staple's performance.

Touching Sports Film
Slamma Jamma (2017)
**** (out of 4)
This is a 10 hankie movie. Every part of the movie is made to make you cry. If you look for underdog in the dictionary, you'll see the face of Michael Diggs. Sure the movie is manipulating us. For that I'll subtract a point. But it's something I'll mostly overlook because the manipulations work so well. The fact is Slamma Jamma has become bigger than a simple movie. It is the standard for underdog sports movies. It has become a synonym to inspirational combined with faith. So many people have told me about this film and loved it.
The story piles on the obstacles facing Diggs. The lead actor is just incredible because he can act and dunk. The story is overkill yet works beautifully. It is heartbreaking every time it happens. The music pulls at the emotional strings. They pile on more obstacles. Even though I know there are manipulations, it doesn't matter. It gets me every time. While not one of the greatest sports movies ever made, this is still a very entertaining and moving film that I'm sure will remain a favorite to many people.
Although it was predictable, the last big scene is an emotional powerhouse that would probably provide a tear in the viewer's eyes. It was truly an inspiring sports film about a real life underdog and a person with a endless determination that transcends sports for it is relevant to many who want to find inspiration in life in God and others.
I remember Stephen A. Smith at ESPN raved about 'Slamma Jamma'!
I have watched this movie several times and I always come away with a smile on my face. I remember Stephen A. Smith at ESPN raved about 'Slamma Jamma'! The Rocky of Basketball, he said. This is more than a street-dunk basketball movie - it's such a human-interest film, such a wonderful story of giving people second chances in life. Add a true-life David beat Goliath story and you have an appealing film. An unsung hero of this movie is the cinematography. Man, this is beautifully filmed and the street basketball has never looked so pretty and appealing. It paints a beautiful picture of this part of South Central LA. You get an honest-to-goodness feel of what it's like to be part of a basketball in this area against all odds.
But as made, it's surely one of the best sports movies ever made. It's better than most of the baseball dramas-which I say even though baseball is my game and basketball not even close. The best sports movie ever made. That's all I have to say.
"Slamma Jamma" is an inspiring film that ought to be seen by young people because of its message about team spirit, faith, redemption, and how to interact with one another in peace and harmony and putting everything out there for Jesus. I highly recommend this sports drama movie. The ending is fantastic.
